Freerotation Festival (a.k.a. the highlight of every year a.k.a. the four best dancefloors on the planet) was on top form this year – it's always a total joy to play and spend the weekend there and I'm really happy to share the recording of my set. I was playing second-to-last on Sunday night in Room 1, between XDB and Sebastian Mullaert, so I figured I'd leave out the drastic tempo shifts and just have A LOAD OF FUN keeping the party going instead, maybe coaxing out a couple of end-of-festival tears in the process.

If you were there then millions of thanks to you, there's no bunch of people I'd rather play to (or hang out with) and I've spent the last 3 days wishing I could go back. Hope you've managed to get through the last few days without almost weeping at the coffee machine. (I've had no such luck.)

Second Woman is the collaborative project featuring Turk Dietrich of Belong and Joshua Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv. 

Josh and Turk have been friends for over 17 years, having met in New Orleans in the late ’90s through mutual friend and future collaborator, Charlie Cooper. The duo have been working on music together on and off since that time.

The concept of Second Woman began with the idea of taking tropes from footwork, dub, house, and techno, and twisting these ideas into something kaleidoscopically liberated from the grid. 
Their work first materialized with two LP’s and an EP on John Elliott and Peter Rehberg’s Spectrum Spools. 

Second Woman tweak the perception of time and space within the audio field into something ASMR-inducing and ultimately satisfying to listen to. Both Josh and Turk experience ASMR in response to certain rhythms and sounds, and effort was made to incorporate these triggers into the music, hopefully for other people to experience as well. 

With Instant / Apart, Second Woman present their complete signature sound as well as a new, more measured dimension to their work.

In celebration of 303 Day (March 3rd) I put together an Electro mix of some of my favorite tracks that feature the legendary machine's sounds. 

Released in 1981, it had a defining role in the development of contemporary electronic dance music. The "squelchy" sound of the TB-303 was a key part of the 'Acid House' sound. The TB-303 is also commonly used in related dance genres such as Acid Techno and Acid Electro. As with any synthesizer, the TB-303 can be processed with effects units to produce different sounds. The TB-303 is a monophonic synthesizer, which means that it can only play one note at a time; it is monotimbral; it uses a sawtooth and square wave oscillator. The TB-303 is used by DJs and record producers to perform and program basslines, as well as other rhythmic/melodic synthesizer motifs.

For the seventh @darkscienceelectro premiere, we look to Berlin-based label @vortex-traks – The 9th release from the label comes to us from a producer calling himself Vertical67 - 

Vertical67 has been releasing a steady amount of tracks on EP’s and albums on labels like brokntoys, Photic Fields, Lunar Disko, 100 % Silk and Magic Waves. Not bound to one genre at all, Vertical67’s music often fuses elements of Electro, Acid, IDM, Techno and Ambient into his own unique take on electronic music. In 2015 he co-founded his own label with his partner @Naks called Vortex Traks. Recently he released the Friction EP on Mechatronica’s digital sub-label. The ‘Out Of The Void’ EP is his second release on Vortex Traks after the Crystalline EP, which was released in 2016. The track selected by me from his upcoming release is entitled ‘Unknown Territories’.  The closing track of the vinyl is a personal favorite of mine due to its dramatic pads, melancholy leads combined with phased hi-hats and solid drum-programming. This first release from Concrete Collage is the fruit of a collaboration between the heads of the label, Olivier Elfezzani and Julien Guillot. More know as Ohmwerk and Stazma, they both have created acid oriented side projects called respectively Acydroid and Repeat Eater; Droid Eater is the combination of those two.
This album is made of jam sessions at Julien Guillot studio in Lyon, using only hardware machines such as samplers, sequencers, modular and fixed synths and fx pedals. Only a very few edits has been made on those recording as we wanted to deliver something very raw that felt like a liveset from home.

In a galaxy far, far away there was a party underway. The stars glittered up above, they were like beautiful dazzling pearls amidst the dense heat of the dark black sky. Miles away, back home on earth, there were people who knew nothing about the futuristic extravagance of alien life and planets beyond the line of sight. This was a special place in which the best of beings moved back and forth, the dancers were easily pleased and the beats bumped all night long, on Nebulon. 

Tone Dropout has moved from strength to strength, the rave inspired label has become a powerhouse for breaks, hardcore and electro having been championed far and wide with each release selling hard and fast.

When I started Holding Hands I was certain about a couple of things. I never wanted to press any stupid coloured vinyl and I wanted to put out some absolute bass bin shaking, massively ripping slam jams. I’ve done my best to stick with these ideals across the releases and I hope the effects on the dance floors round the world speak for themselves. 

For release numero 7 I have decided to switch up the format and put out a various artists EP. We’ve got a couple label regulars and a couple fresh faces, each bringing a different vibe but with one overarching theme. The tracks have gotta slam...

OK enough of my blather. Go and listen to the damn things yourself and decide if you like them, rather than trying to work it out from reading a bloody press release you weirdos.

All four tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. They want big sound systems and dark rooms.
