This debut mix marks the launch of DJ Programma’s latest project, Programma++, a pseudonym dedicated to greater creative freedom and a more experimental sonic approach.

This mix presents a dynamic journey through experimental soundscapes, weaving together elements of bass, breakbeat, techno, and drum & bass to showcase the full spectrum of genre-defying club music, the forward thinking styles that have defined his signature sound.

Mesh Mix Series 030: Programma++

"My mission is to explore the boundaries of psychedelic music." The revered techno artist talks about expanding consciousness, breaking the rules and his new album on Tresor. 

There has always been a strain of dance music that has leant psychedelic, from the leftfield psychoacoustics of pioneers like La Monte Young to the proggy techno taking over today's dance floors. One artist who embodies the spirit of psychedelia is Anthony Child, AKA Surgeon, a revered DJ and producer who has historically been placed in the world of industrial techno, but whose output over the years has consistently flirted with altered states of consciousness and a strong opposition to the mainstream.

Child is originally from Birmingham, where he and Karl O'Connor, AKA Regis, helped birth a style of powerful, loop-driven techno. Together, they're British Murder Boys and have released music on O'Connor's seminal label Downwards. But they've also ploughed successful solo careers, with Child putting out several releases on Tresor and performing live improvised electronics as Surgeon and as part of ambient listening duo The Transcendence Orchestra.

In this interview, Child talks about his most recent release on Tresor, the album Shell~Wave, and its innovative use of techniques associated with Jamaican dub. He also discusses the through line of psychedelia in his work and what it means to surrender oneself to sometimes uncomfortable processes—both creatively and in life—and come out the other side. There are strong links to spirituality and Buddhism in Child's work, many of which are designed to prompt listeners to question and reconsider the boundaries they've set around the reality they live in. There’s a special kind of trust when a festival makes someone a resident. For Les Chaos Ambiants, that someone is Lynne. We’ve partnered with this boutique French festival for the second year, sharing the sounds and stories behind their lakeside weekend in the wooded hills of Sommant. The festival thrives on curation that feels personal, lineups that move like chapters in a book, sound systems tuned to catch every detail, and a setting where the air itself seems to carry the low-end.

Lynne embodies that approach. Originally from Japan and now based in London, she’s built a reputation on mixing low-lit atmospheres with rhythm patterns that shift just as you think you’ve caught them. Her triumphant comeback to our podcast series finds her opening the spectrum: warmer tones, space between the beats, a subtle dub pulse, and even flickers of jazz phrasing. Yet the structural backbone remains hers, breaks that fold time and pacing that keeps you just ahead of the next turn. It’s not a departure, it's more like a widening of the frame, perfectly in sync with the spirit of Les Chaos Ambiants.
