The traveller ventured onwards - the eyes followed. Their watchful gaze filled the air with an indiscernible weight, hanging like fog. With each shaky step, the traveller’s chest knotted with anxiety, turbulent currents pushing and pulling like waves. The sensation twisted through their veins; snakes constricting their limbs until they could not tread any further.
The snakes coursed up the traveller’s body, seeming to extend above them and beyond into the fog above. Frozen yet panicked, the traveller raised their eyes skyward. 

Above - the orb. 

The snakes seemed bound to this orb, arcing towards it as it hung there shining like a star. Time seemed to race and stretch, a blend of fury and introspection. Forced to watch, the traveller saw the orb swirl and bounce, but not once did it stray away into the fog. Gradually, it dawned upon them that their anxiety, though all-encompassing, was not their adversary. It was a messenger; a signal from within demanding attention.

Still, the eyes watched, yet seemed to cower at the light of the orb - it cut like a razor through the chaos of the fog, illuminating the path ahead.

Grateful for the guidance of their newfound companion, they continued their journey.

The Anjunadeep Edition 559 with Abakus

For the next instalment of the Mesh Mix Series, we welcome Berlin-based artist and community leader Llyr to the decks. Known for crafting immersive sonic ecosystems through field recordings, advanced studio techniques, and classic synthesis, he now channels his distinctive sensibility into a mix that reflects the breadth and depth of his sound world.

In Llyr's own words, 'When I was invited to contribute to the Mesh Mix series, I saw it as the perfect canvas for sonic exploration - a chance to traverse different moods, tempos, and energy levels without the constraints of a typical ‘DJ set’. I envisioned something closer to a mixtape crafted for close friends: each track given space to unfold and breathe before colliding into the next, but occasionally veering into club territory.

As I considered what to record for this, I realised I already had something that would fit the bill perfectly: a recording from my series of opening sets for Max Cooper's DE tour earlier this year. Those shows are always a license to go eclectic for an audience eager to hear a wide range of music, and the preparation always involves a deep dive to discover new music and artists that I'm excited to hear on a big sound system.

 The accompanying photograph was taken at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on La Palma, home to some of the world's most powerful telescopes perched at the island's highest point. This photo was taken minutes before the Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge down below erupted for the first time in 50 years. The juxtaposition of the island's geological forces at work beneath this place dedicated to cosmic observation felt profound: contemplating the vast scale of space while witnessing the earth's own transformative power.'

Mesh Mix Series 033: Llyr

RA.1000 launches with Theo Parrish, live at fabric: a vanishingly rare club mix from the king of deep crates and impossible transitions.

There are DJ sets and then there are Theo sets. No matter how many times you've caught him in action, every time still feels like the first. Running hot, levels smoking, isolator working over time. You think you know dance music? Think again.

Parrish's debut on the RA Podcast is a milestone for the series, one we've sought for over 15 years. So it was only right that Theo led off our 1000th celebrations. Recorded live at fabric last December as part of RA's party with the London club for their 25th anniversary, this three-hour segment documents the crescendo of his eight-hour marathon. 

The Detroit legend doesn't release mixes often, and when he does, they're usually studio recordings: think NTS shows, his 100% Detroit edition of DJ-Kicks or classic tapes Body (1997) and Methods of Movement (2000). A capture of the Sound Signature boss on the dancefloor is hard to come by.

Sure, there's galvanising build-ups and crowd-pleasers, but laced throughout a Parrish beatdown are rarities designed to shock the system. In a business dominated by marketing, the vinyl master towers above thanks to a relentless hunger for lustrous melodies, moods and textures of all stripes, which he and he alone can fold into an inspiring and exhilarating joyride.

On RA.1000, blissful reggae precedes new wave disco; '80s R&B morphs into synthy techno; bleepy Chicago jack makes way for a poignant vocal ballad. It's Theo through and through. Once again, he proves that anything and everything is possible with the right records.

RA.1000 Theo Parrish

The arena-conquering duo glide from gritty rave to skyscraping arpeggios on RA.1000, a mix many years in the making.

A new name undeniably entered the pantheon of major electronic live acts over the past decade: next to Faithless, The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers, now sit @feelmybicep.

The Belfast duo's music doesn't half reach for the stars: a melodic blend of ambient, breakbeat, trance and tech house, able to turn the biggest arenas into intimate affairs.

If anything, mainstream success, BRIT Award nominations and mammoth dance crossovers like "Glue" have only hardened Andy Ferguson and Matt McBriar's resolve to keep innovating.

Their prized blog, running for nearly as long as the RA Podcast, regularly platforms upcoming artists. And you won't find many festival headliners releasing climate change-themed records with Indigenous artists, as they did recently on Takkuuk.

RA.1000 exists in that spirit. After many polite declines, and before a year off to usher in the next era, Bicep come through at the last: from dub techno and screwface breaks to São Paulo garage, before a tide of signature synths floods the zone. Stadium-sized intimacy at its finest.

"The Grey Amnesia" is the first transmission from Reverend Sulanke – a phantom ensemble summoned from the backrooms of a half-forgotten Berlin ballroom, where the raw nerves of early The Cure meet the mechanical pulse of Fad Gadget, and the storytelling despair of Johnny Warman collides with the synth-stabbed melancholy of Depeche Mode’s "Speak & Spell" era.
A 7-minute maxi-single that unfolds like a fever dream: jagged guitars weave through ice-cold synths, while a bassline throbs like a bruised heart. The vocals – half-spoken, half-sung – drag you through the corridors of a memory that isn’t yours, where "the walls are made of static and the floor is made of broken vinyl". This isn’t just a song; it’s a seance. A tape loop of regret, played on a machine that’s always on the verge of collapsing into silence.

Recorded in the dead of night, with the ghosts of 1980s analog gear breathing down its neck, "The Grey Amnesia" is the sound of a band caught between punk’s fury, new wave’s glamour, and the gothic storytelling of a war that never really ended. Think Robert Smith’s guilt, Vince Clarke’s circuits, and Frank Tovey’s (Fad Gadget) clanking paranoia, all stitched together with the thread of a novel you can’t put down.

Written in E minor – the key of melancholy, rebellion, and haunted ballrooms. ‘The Grey Amnesia’ wraps its lyrics in the same dark embrace as The Cure’s ‘Disintegration’ or Siouxsie’s ‘Juju’, but with a heartbeat of 174 BPM.

Did you know? ‘The Grey Amnesia’ was recorded in 441 Hz – the same tuning as a heart racing just a little too fast. 🎵💓

Voltereta [Feli Navarro] originally from Barecelona, is based in the south of Spain in Cadiz, he creates and explores fields of electronic music, digital art and performance. His formative years were spent studying at the Music Technology Group in Barcelona followed by performing at La Biennale di Venezia with the Galata Electroacoustic Orchestra. He is currently a researcher and collaborator at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona)
 
Being a lover of thorough production, Voltereta brings the potency of melodic techno together with the depth of ambient and sound art, crafting a fluid and eclectic style of dense atmospheres that invite dancing and introspection. After ’Castigo Al Mar’ (Traum Schallplatten, 2015) and his EP ’Cabezas Bien Altas’ (Sr. Nadie Subcultura Recordings, 2016) he focused on creating visuals, collaborations with other artists and, step by step, recording his new album ‘Nubla’ (Làdeli Editions, 2020).
 
Due to his fascination with the evocativeness of electronic music, the narrative component always plays an important role in his releases. Memory and dreams, the dialogue between digital technology and nature, the ideas of dystopia and utopia or the meaning of home, have played a role in shaping his discography.
 
The artwork was chosen by the artist, some words below:
"Some months ago I commissioned the artwork for my new album Nubla to Rob Clouth. We ended up having a collection of really nice computer-generated artworks made with a custom software developed by Rob. I've chosen this one because I think it represents how the mix goes, something that looks organic but it's been digitally generated, that can resemble a peaceful picture taken in nature but it also contains darkness and some sort of void and uncertainty"

Manchester’s Joe McBride pens elaborate, emotive & intellectual soundscapes, drawing in influences across a spectrum of bass culture and electronica. Having released with Exit Records, Brownswood, Styrax, Auxiliary & Med School, as well as remixes for Model 500, Snow Patrol, Lowb, Max Cooper & a plethora more, Synkro has found a home at R&S sister label ‘Apollo’. 

Major support for Synkro’s music has come from names like Chris Coco, Giles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Prefuse 73 and dBridge. A truly staple artist in the timeline of UK Bass.

The artwork was chosen by the artist, some words below:
I painted this sometime around 2014, ironically during a period of self-imposed isolation when I wanted to express myself through a different medium. It’s called “Cible” (French for “target”).

As a producer, DJ & label owner Cosmin Nicolae’s dedication to developing a rich and wholly personal artistic landscape provides the driving force behind one of dance music’s most unique & industrious individuals. 

Opening the door on Hessle Audio over a decade ago - an outlet that has gone on to become a defining voice within electronic music in the 21st Century, Nicolae’s list of affiliations reads like a who’s who of top tier contemporary dance music record labels. Appearances on Amsterdam’s Rush Hour and Gerd Janson’s Running Back, as well as a brace of singles alongside LP’s Gordian and Simulat on the now defunct 50 Weapons - not to mention work for Semantica and Bleep, have cemented Cosmin TRG deep in the psyche of the ever shifting amoeba that is the dance music zeitgeist. 

In many ways, what lies at the heart of Nicolae’s work - beyond the extraordinary pairing of high end sound design and club functionality, is an innate ability to bind his discography - to create a streamlined sonic vision without compromise, one that moves with purpose and vigour outwards to explore in depth structures that exist on the very periphery of House & Techno, Ambient & experimental electronics - but maintain a unique and recognisable finish. Few artists could boast a discography that marries 2016’s ubiquitous In Your Body, an anthemic spoken- word-meets- Tool-Techno leviathan released via Nicolae’s own club-focused Sportiv outlet, with Semnal - a gloriously executed LP of shifting, otherworldly Experimental music delivered under the artist’s given name via the Opal Tapes label. 

Cult concept missive Hope This Finds You Well, Nicolae’s 2019 reflection on corporate culture furthers this same dichotomy - a stunning wide-angle Ambient LP on Fizic - the label operated by the artist as a home to more conceptual iterations, that followed hot on the footsteps of a remix for Bpitch founder Ellen Alien & the fourth instalment on Sportiv - both offerings heady club constructions in their own right. 

On the road, both DJ sets and live performances mirror this healthy sentiment - with Nicolae as comfortable on main stages showcasing his take on hyper-modern propulsive Techno, as he is presenting the low slung avant-garde preoccupations of his more leftfield alias’. There’s the constant feeling that both these practices feed back into one another, and that from each respective vantage point, Cosmin TRG is able to make the kind of dynamic & intuitive artistic decisions that few can - keeping his work fresh & current without concession - ceding to his own desire to further his vision as a creator of sonic abstraction without losing sight of the dance floor.

John Tejada is a Vienna-born, Los Angeles-based electronic music composer and DJ. Tejada’s professional output of music began in 1994 and has never let up, including four albums for the revered label Kompakt, plus releases on Pokerflat, Cocoon, Plug Research, Seventh City, Playhouse, Defected, and his own label since 1996, Palette Recordings. Tejada has also been responsible for remixing over 100 songs for acts including The Postal Service, Télépopmusic, The Field, Bomb The Bass, Way Out West, Kevin Saunderson, Darren Emerson, Gui Boratto, Simian Mobile Disco and many others. Tejada’s latest venture as Wajatta is a new musical collaboration with international star Reggie Watts, having released their debut album, Casual High Technology, in 2018 and latest album Don’t Let Get You Down in 2020 on Brainfeeder. 

Tejada has traveled to more than 30 countries DJing and performing live at clubs – Berghain (Berlin), Fabric (London), Rex Club (Paris), Womb (Tokyo) – festivals such as Dance Valley (Netherlands), Decibel Festival (Seattle), Dekmantel Festival (Amsterdam), Detroit Electronic Music Festival (aka Movement), Mutek (Montreal and Mexico), Sonar Festival (Spain and Tokyo) and Sync Festival (Greece), as well as esteemed venues such as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and twice at Walt Disney Concert Hall, both in Los Angeles.

Mesh Series 005: Rob Clouth

As a multidisciplinary artist working in the fields of electronic music, computational sonics and new media, Rob Clouth's motivations include searching for raw emotion amongst intricate musical structures, developing experimental audio software solutions and, in the broadest sense, rethinking the ways in how we interact with music and technology.

Initially received as an IDM artist, his sound has evolved consistently over the years, with critically acclaimed excursions into techno, ambient and neoclassical. Today, he employs a range of influences, drawing upon research-based practices with a heavy dose of improvisation to forge microscopic textures rich with melody and harmony. A proficient software developer, he codes his own digital instruments in tandem with the music, an iterative cycle in which one feeds off the other.

After a few years exploring the outer realms of dubstep as Vaetxh, Rob’s first EP under his own name arrived with 2012’s Cloud Complex on Traum Schallplatten. Fusing the glitchy aesthetic of his previous work with fragile melodies and techno rhythms, it signalled the merging of his detail-oriented production with multigenre, dancefloor-ready tracks. Two acclaimed 2014 releases on Barker’s Leisure System imprint - Clockwork Atom and Deep Field - expanded further on his interest in atypical structures and sweeping spatial arrangements, landing him a spot on Bleep’s best releases of the year.

Hidden Structures - a 2015 EP, again on Leisure System - considered the inner workings that lie within the universe, using the notion of concealed structures to build a delicate 30-minute release of mind-melting sonic explorations. The follow up to this, 2018’s Transition - Rob’s first release on Max Cooper’s Mesh imprint - represented a new direction in his methodology. The landmark four-track EP is accompanied by an online algorithmic summary of his entire musical output since 2003, documenting his development as an artist as part generative music piece, part visual summary, and rethinking the traditional formats attributed to a release. 

March 2020 saw the release of Rob’s debut album Zero Point - a love-letter to noise, chance, chaos and order. Written over a year and a half between Barcelona and a remote village in Northern Spain, the album is inspired by the zero-point field, a quantum sea of random energy that exists everywhere in the universe. Seemingly complex scientific processes might suggest a challenging listen, but Rob’s music positions the listener firmly in the centre, encompassing moments of awe and affect amongst shifting rhythmic structure

Okay now back to more spiritual matter...

Also the fact that when I 1st got hacked in SE london - think it was Catford, I’ll find out later... I walked into Poundland or something close, and some security officers were chanting “Live Forever” before that I’ve heard people say it and after it too... I further recall a statement I used for myself when playing a video game many years ago, it was because It was practically impossible to beat me... it was called Gears of War .., I would say in a very high pitch voice “I DONT DIE”...

Think it intimidated some losing gamers in to mind hacking me and later rechanting the very same words to me this time via mind hacking ...

Since my youth I’ve always believed without a single doubt I would live in to Armageddon and past it... funny how that happened too

And finally after being hacked I found that my algorithm was distributed worldwide and thus my mind became the most desired by the world who tortured me while ripping the Polymath out of me... down to this day...

 whether you wish to accept or not I am connected to my mind and thus the bible did not have to be specific in noting exactly what would make the person (one) desirable...
