A curated series where we commission artists to make an hour long mix of whatever inspires them to experiment, produce, and what they listen to.

No holding back, Jinjé (Lee Malcom) throws down some dance-floor calefaction on this edition 18 of the Mesh Mix Series. It covers sonic sketches across the electronic spectrum to IDM, garage, glitchy acid stompers to 4/4 abrasive bass rollers. 

It's a much welcomed contribution to the series, after Mesh released Jinjé's debut 4 track this year, entitled "Open Unity" which was a reference to Malcolms' love of rave culture and the community aspect it provides - which this mix further seemingly provides homage too.

Halina Rice is an electronic music producer and AV artist renowned for her vivid and eclectic style ranging from evocative and avant-garde soundscapes to beat-driven tracks. Working at the intersection of art, music and technology - her self-released "New World" project blends electronic music with impactful mixed reality visuals and 360 sound to create other-wordly immersive experiences. 


"I am really inspired by artists who are both adventurous and emotive with sound and this mix reflects that - from the percussive and abstract synth stabs of SPIME.IM, the moving and sometimes unsettling work of Noemi Buchi, Hiro Kone's distinctive modular synth approach and the sound design palette of Feldermelder. I think my favourite track is the collaboration of Fennesz and David Sylvian - the rich vocals juxtaposed with distorted soundscaping and unusual warped delays. Props also to SINK, the last track Distress Flare is from his debut EP on which he pushes the boundaries to unite vocals with unique sound." - Halina Rice

There’s something unearthly in the way the sun appears turquoise against an impressionistic dark background. It reminded me of stories by Ray Bradbury and his descriptions of life on other planets that seem simultaneously normal and strange.”

The warmth and humanity of dub meets the cold & accurate impulses of techno. This mixture of deep techno, fast dub techno and deep house is an example of the power of spatiality. Elements in the mix both have ethereal space along warm woven textures. An architectural, structural, and musical soothing journey. At the moment I created the keywords of some emotions and objects which reaches to my mind. While I was listening the set, I felt myself in microcosmos of the macro universe. Finnish-Swiss duo Henrik Blomfelt and Gaspar Narby take the reins on this month's Mesh mix.

This morning's auditory adventure comes in the form of an Australian creative duo. Igor and Joe have been Facebook Messenger friends since the early '10s, when Igor was blending Ostgut Ton with outsider indie records and Joe was developing his collage-inspired studio mixing style. They've been obsessively swapping Soundcloud links ever since, and collaborated on a 39-track project called 'Tales From Nowhere O'clock' in 2013. Anders Trentemøller is one of those artists that can live up to the description of "trademark sound". Since his poll-bothering debut release in 2006 ('The Last Resort'), the Copenhagen based musician has been drawing on his love of 80s/ 90s indie and using that distinctive personal motif on his intricate electronic productions. After pioneering his own full live show he has now notched up over 300 appearances, and still found time to get to his fourth studio album. 'Fixion' was released earlier this year and sees him refine his sound, and yet add some organicity and more traditional song structure to the release. As he comes to the end of a sold-out tour, Anders has provided us with a delicate and ghostly mix for the start of your week and gives us some brief answers to some nosey questions.

In keeping with the Mesh theme, a collaboration between myself and Max Cooper (that could be seen as the start of my journey to this label) sits alongside music that’s inspired me throughout the lockdown period. From abstract and ambient to driving, epic techno, I had these tunes turned up loud in the studio and imagined what it would feel like to play this set in a club.
