Nicolá Cruz is a master of meaningful engagement. Whether he's studying North African melodies or spiritual chants, he shows profound respect for a given sound's cultural context. This is evident across his entire discography. His earliest releases on Multi Culti and ZZK Records layerered traditional woodwinds and percussion with folktronica and tribal house, reflecting a holistic understanding of global rhythms. His more recent work takes an adventurous, polyglot approach to club music, with EPs on Highlife, Rhythm Section and Tra Tra Trax exploring breaks, acid and other spirally sounds. But even his deep, drum-heavy techno cuts feel unusually organic, vibrant polyrhythms bursting with character.

For his RA Podcast, the Ecuador-based producer shows off his rave education. This display of futuristic chuggers and electro—Marcela Dias Sindaco's "A Flor Da Pele" is a particular highlight—speaks to Cruz's deep appreciation for body music. He treats dance floor jams with the same nuance as culturally significant sounds, a testament to his versatility, knowledge and experience. Journeying across acid basslines and dubby electronics, the 73 minute-long ride flirts with psychedelia, distortion and experimental bleeps, with many of the selections reflecting his own taste for colorful patterns. SonarMix 011 takes a different path to previous editions, with Barcelona experimental artist Pedro Vian offering a tour through his recent listening pile. Recorded using a sole turntable, Vian takes us through forthcoming releases on his Modern Obscure Music imprint (fêted Japanese ambient artist Susumu Yokota), classic 80s reggae from Steel An' Skin, and unidentified and unreleased music from himself and others. The result is an unhurried, autumnal wander through a diverse set of sounds, tones and styles, a perfect soundtrack for the changing of the seasons.

For Viscera 095, London-based duo Metropolitan Soul Museum (MSM) take the helm! 

Consisting of Nick (formerly of Mock & Toof) and Filippo, the pair met in 2012 when Filippo sent music to Nick's newly born Teng imprint, and they have been working together ever since. They have been making constant waves with their melodic tracks which have landed on various labels including Public Release, Rawax and Gestalt Records, and are always well received throughout the cosmos. In addition to producing music, they also run the Kulture Galerie label and mix series, which we're sure most of you are aware of.

MSM's music is characterised by energetic grooves, laser synths, and analogue drum machines, and today's mix shows why they are a force to be reckoned with.

For our jubilee we welcome Michael Mayer from Cologne. He is not only an amazing DJ, but also our distribution boss at Kompakt. Here's what he says about his mix:

"One fine day there was a package on my desk, inside a 7" single with good mood music on yellow vinyl, wrapped in a hand painted good mood cover. It was Pingipung 01, Peter Presto's "Es war Sommer" and it was love at first sight. That this flash in the pan would turn into a 20-year (business) relationship is one of the most beautiful stories you can experience in the music business. Pingipung is a beacon of DIY culture, fed by deep devotion to impossible music. I am very happy to be able to present this musical bouquet for their anniversary."
