So I know as music lovers we're all supposed to love the Beach Boys Pet Sounds...but I have a confession:  I never really got it.  It always seemed a little dull, a little boring, and not very "groovy".  I know it's a technical masterpiece, but that doesn't always translate to being listenable...at least not for me.  Then I found this lesser known Beach Boys album called Smiley Smile.  It was the follow up to Pet Sounds and was supposed to be their "answer" to the Beatles Sgt. Pepper.  Widely panned by critics it was considered a flop.  It definitely feels lo-fi and unfinished, and it was, having been recorded in Brian Wilson's home with very few instruments.  But for me it's their best album for just those reasons.  Listening today you could think it was by some new hipster Brooklyn band.  Definitely ahead of it's time.  I heard it's claim to fame was that it was the go-to record to play for people having a bad LSD trip.  Anyway, this song is my homage to the song "Wind Chimes". It's an old English tune but my arrangement here is a little more generic of these isles - there's an English style penny whistle and an Irish style tin whistle in the mix.

This is a 2002 interpretation of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings, taken from Barber's original 1936 score. The piece was arranged in Cakewalk 9. Synth sounds are from a Kurzweil K2500 keyboard.
