Close your eyes and merge into Benedikt Frey’s 'Fastlane'. Imagine sitting in the driver’s seat of a an automobile, one with exceptional horsepower and torque, as you stare out the windshield at the red light, warping in fata-morgana a mile down the road. It’s a straight-away, a black top with two lanes, and against your better judgment you decide to floor the gas. No hesitation in your muscle, your ankle or the ball of your foot, which you now realize is some kind of universal pivot, the first point of contact fusing your body with the will of machine. In this moment you’re in awe that you, a human, an animal, grew from pond scum into something so advanced as to engineer this thing, a mechanical beast capable of overwhelming power and exhilaration. But you also feel a seductive dread, an outside force diverting you from caution toward a dangling carrot of curiosity, asking yourself, ‘How far can I take this thing?’ The dread, now a constant, is numbed, equalized by an adverse intoxicating gratification. You feel both sensations in real time, however, rather than take responsibility for yourself, friends, family and innocent bystanders, you cement your foot to the floor and lean your head back. Noise around you fades to mute. Smell the benzene-scented air, feel the wind on your face, the menacing vibration of the vessel you control beneath you and every grain of asphalt under its tires. This mile has now lasted an eternity and you’ve left your body for some objective view, as if watching climax of a film. Past the point of no return, you embrace abandon and lean into fate. The film becomes slow motion, a crawling pace so mesmerizing you convince yourself of an option to eject yourself from this madness, but as you finally let go of your last morsel of fear, you run the red light head-on into the nucleus of a fantastic glistening sculpture of torn metal, glass, oil, broken dreams and heartache. 'Fastlane' may be just drum machines and synthesizers if you’re timid, but listen harder and know the catastrophic reality of existence, a wreckage so gruesome we dare not rubberneck, but afterall it is our nature to stare.

Back in 2017 Tear Apart Tapes released "Run", a song by Shakkatam. John Talabot immediately connected with it and played it as the closing in many of his dj sets. We are now grateful to present "Run" in a new context, with three covers from artists we admire: Cucina Povera, Céline Gillain and Dania.

The original song and Dania's cover are out now. Full release and vinyl will be available in October.

Tiella Sound is a project born in 2019 from the mind of Italian DJ Luca Bigote that started as a radio show currently airing on French LYL Radio, and now debuting in the record label ecosystem with its first official release, pressed in a limited edition of only 200 copies.

The vision and mission of the entire project are quite clear and based on the principle of musical eclecticism. Luca Bigote, in fact, from the very beginning has never wanted to set boundaries to his creature, which, following an open-minded approach, flirts with the most disparate sounds, not exclusively club-oriented ones, focusing on the quality and research that have always distinguished his path.

For its first release, Tiella Sound has chosen Perugia-born DJ and producer Daniele Tomassini, already known for his records under the Feel Fly moniker, who presents us with the first LP from his alter ego VAISA.
This work consists of unreleased tracks composed between 2014 and 2016, during the intense creative period that saw him involved in more experimental and alternative projects such as Palenque Pacal trio and Wunder Camera duo. This material finally sees the light, a few years after the inspiring live performance during the second edition of Esperimenti (January 2017), the music festival curated by Luca himself together with his friend and colleague Matteo Lieto in Gaeta, Italy.

“VAISA is a dense, raw, evocative project. A lo-fi maelstrom of field recordings, sound collage, mysterious vocal samples from ancient cultures, obscure rhythms and layered tribal percussions, ambient clouds, dub echoes, with the martial tolling of the kick drum beating out the slow electronic ritual” (Caveargento): a deep and timeless journey, ready to drive all the lovers of the most abstract and primitive sounds into ecstasy.

Clyde Falls 

These tracks were made early in 2023, the title track ‘Clyde Falls’ fell out of me one day after a walk in nature with a pal after having spent way too long in the city, indoors. It set me on a path of making and finishing music again, finding new ways to be playful and creative. I imagined them as a collection of tracks after a gig in early springtime, during which my computer fucked up and I had to play some recent tracks I’d made in Ableton. The twists and moods seemed to resonate with people, so I added a few more tracks to round that accident into a collection. 

Making instrumentals is, I suppose, my way of expressing latent and blatant emotions and drives, reflecting the surroundings and influences that fuel them. Or, more simply, it's top tier escapism, an addictive wrestle of adding and subtracting ideas till you feel like you’ve captured ‘something’.

Over The Moon For You is post rave synthy air, part euphoria, part melancholia - it expresses the dilemma of, in love, sacrificing your own happiness for that of other people. It stemmed from the line “I’d jump over the moon for you”, I thought the poetry of it was part funny, part dark like the instro itself. 

I wrote What I Meant to Say Was and We’re Made for my long term collaborator and creative cowboy, Jack Sheehan to vocal. He says of the tracks, precisely “What I meant to say is about saying yes when you meant no and we’re made up is about the drug ecstasy.”   

Clyde Falls, Ban My Shadow and Reality is Cool are less summarisable in their meanings, these are instrumentals that tend to transform one mood into an entirely different one. Organic sounds to mechanistic ones, fours to the floor to melody laden passages, menacing and calm. I was experimenting with new instruments and programming ideas to give novel sounds to the urge to build and destroy.  

The meaning behind ‘Luteal Phase’ is seemingly evident in the title. Though a notoriously difficult phase to describe. This track on one hand expresses a dark but powerful femininity but maybe it just expresses a wonky bassline that I really, really wanted to write. 

As my pal Loris says “It’s like watching a building without the front wall and seeing that everyone is being sweet to each other but in front of the building there’s road works and pneumatic drills are going off”.

This is an uplifting - but downtempo - deep house tune, that updates the original with added layers of melody, and a whole different vibe.

This mix celebrates Palestinian resilience, but also reminds us that Palestine is still the issue. And it needs to be healed. It needs to be put back together, but behind all of that enforced endurance, is a resilience that is unmatched. The Palestinian people deserve to be free. And they will be. Soon hopefully.

This track is dedicated to the journalists of Gaza, without whom we would not understand the full extent of the massacre. 

It's quite fitting that one of the most supportive journalists towards the Palestinian cause for freedom, John Pilger, is featured on the vocal version. He sadly passed away in December 2023, just months after Israel began it's massacre. RIP John Pilger.

The Palestinians (Gaza Resilience Instrumental Downtempo Mix)
