Do you believe in magic?, because I do...somehow I conjured up some of my best work to date still in the pandemic playing for friends online on twitch.  Maybe a quarter turn late on releasing, but still worthwhile.,I take you on a journey through all my genres from dubstep to trap to half time and drum and bass, glitch hop - you name it, this mix has a little bit of all my facets in there in one journey. 2021 - 03 Meta Zen Spring Equinox Aries On Fire Sign Mix

As the story continues...
A small blip in my tech setup caused me to have to stop for a moment and try to get the pc to behave.  I was on my backup pc - as my main music pc is having touchpad issues. It's ok.. can't have perfection all the time, but the set was still a success.   Happened halfway through so I just broke the set up in two.   Just didn't want to doctor it up beyond a simple fade out when my pc started acting up. The dancefloor was bumping and left my homies with the bases loaded so they can hit it out of the park.   And as I remarked on the mic, life will always through you curve balls - how you react is what counts.  Fall down seven times - get up 8. 

This part 1 is filled with some unreleased tracks and some favorites reworked through some looping, and live remixing. One of the classics by Rabbit in the Moon is 29 years old and still held its own. Other tracks by Pheuzen (Treavor Moontribe of Desert Dwellers), the up and coming star and friend - PRESSHA, Zebblar, etc.  So if you like breaks and wanted to revisit the old "FractAlien" breaks style - this is the mini mix for that

2023 - 4-14 Meta Zen @ Rose Entertainment Wunderground (N Warehouse) - Blip In The Matrix Pt 1

A journey through time, the world, and genres for some of my oldest rave family in OR.  I had the absolute honor of playing the yurt / portal (the yurtal) on Saturday night at what I might call a mini fest with rave fam from way back.  The set was a hit and it felt amazing being able to play for my fam and deliver. This is completely untouched and unedited so might be a little rough around the edges- don't have much time to do a polish atm.  I might revisit and update... but in the mean time, enjoy!

A moment in time where I got to explore some halftime, grime and drum and bass on beautiful saturday at a park party with some heavy things in my heart but it is all good because i think this came out quite exquisitely and poeticly if you pay attention to a few key junctures....

2023-09-02 Gnosis - Bass Ballads In The Key Of Fo#

I was invited by my pdx/seattle/canada music fam to come play out at the "Last Summer Shaker".  I was honored to be able to play on an awesome sound system for some of my life long friends.  I played for over 2 hours on my first set, but I am only posting 1 hour at this moment... maybe i'll change my mind, cuz the journey took us from dubstep, to breaks, to house, to dnb and halftime and that was a feat in and of itself.

2023 - 09 Summer Shaker - Pt1.1

Breaks fans, B Boys and Girls rejoice in this tribute to the Breaks music genre. This mix is not perfect- it has a few flews and mistakes (as am I) - but over all  - filled with lots of good music. A set I played for Portland Winter Light Festival @ Jaja pdx for a good friend (Jacque) of the Orca Sound System - a custom paraflex flexing the leds and pristine sound. Beautiful, tribal, and fierce... I cut out the last mix cuz it wasn't the best, but otherwise came out well. A journey around the globe with some of my favorite artist friends celebrating a beautiful wedding with some of my other favorite artist friends.

I tried to bring my A game and bring some new material and some forgotten relics as well as try a few new things (live remixes, Meta Zen mashups, and complete overlay mixes).
However, mix is perfectly imperfect, showing you i am human and working through things live.

Meta Zen - Stargazing (Bass Music Journey)

Meta Zen closing out the Silent Disco at WTF 2017 - If you are not familiar with Silent Discos, there are multiple djs playing and dancers get to choose which channel they listen to. There were two other dj's playing- I was the blue channel as we closed out the stage on the last night. I got some great feedback... and the picture speaks for itself. Meta Zen - What The Festival 2017

An afternoon set warming things up as we transition from a live performance to electronic sounds.. This is a mind melting bass music journey that builds and goes through a few different styles... chill bass, psychill, trappy, tribal, , somehow making my way into some funkier glitch hop traversing and emerging with some mid tempo bass music into "house served up on a galactic silver platter" for my house homies to slay the rest of the evening.

Meta Zen @ Metta With Somatoast Drrtywulvz Lapa (2017 - 10 - 21)

One of my resident DJ sets opening up for Craftal, Chrome Wolves, and Buku.  The night went off,- every artist put together a great set
However, I feel this might be some of my best work yet, mashing, looping, and mixing through your inner and outer cosmos.... Honestly, I'm excited to keep pushing my limits.

So this mix is not for the faint of heart, its some of the hardest, filthiest, most psychedelic music I have in my arsenal.  It is probably best suited for your super hyphee house party or gym time.  I'm gonna have to dig deep for my next set. 

Thanks for all your love and supportt, fam.  I keep getting a lot of love for what I do.   Special thanks to Joseph and Stephen who made me a part of this team.  Honored to be a resident DJ for Rose Entertainment / Metta. shows here in Pdx.

Incantation 1.6 WIP

A show that 1F Entertainment threw for me for my Birthday. I played to a full dancefloor- thanks Portland, I love you! This is mostly on that 95-110 Glitch Hop funky fierce psychedelic tribal vibe that has that unique Meta Zen signature. Tracks by Aligning Minds vs Lunacell, Itsu. Some secret sauce, Vinja, Nominus, Whitebear vs Tribone, Dysphemic , Zebbler Encanti Experience, Habstrakt, Shamanic Technology plus a few secret sauce artists I'm not giving up quite yet.


Thank you all for coming out. Thanks to Shant Ahuja, Rian BuckWilder Rich, Joel Austin, and Swine Ivory was a great night of music all around. Thanks to the my 1f people Andy Peterson, Nick Fernando, Charles Barbosa, Karmah Shrishti, Mirah TwoOwls Miet (thank you for my awesome crystal Mirah 💗!!!) All the friends that came to support me. I had a full dancefloor on a Wednesday, I got to play some.of my music I had been itching to play and I couldn't ask for a better present than to rock it with all of you. v.1.05 - 4.16.2011- Some changes in the patterns
v.1.06 - 4.17.2011 - I listened to it in my car, and it sounded way to bass heavy (the subbass was drowning out a lot). This version is my attempt to tone down the subbass give it a bit more of a throb in those frequencies to let the mix breathe..
v1.07 - 4.21.2011 - Just worked on the mixdown a bit
v1.09 - 4.23.2011 - many changes... incorporated some feedback
v1.092 - 4.23.2011 - Further work, feedback incorporated, etc... 
v1.101 - 4.25.2011 - Mixdown work: bring out vocal and limit the low end a little bit.
v1.111 - 4.26.2011 - Still sounded like vocal wasn't loud enough in the mix, so I tweaked it a bit further - hopefully that should do it!
v1.121 - 5.1.2011 - Keep getting feedback that the vocal is too low, so I did a little more tweaking and tried to maximize it without compromising the rest of the mix... thanks for your feedback guys! 
v1.122 - 5.1.2011 - Took a listen in my car and the "quick master" that I made sounded a little too high on the mids and highs, so I toned these down just a tad. 
v1.131 - 5.6.2011 - Although I have many people that are content with this version, I've taken some feedback and tried to incorporate some variation in the melodic composition of the remix. Gonna sit on it for a while and see if people like the changes! Thanks for pushing me and helping me constantly improve! The new 'melodic' remix can be found here:

v2.1 -6.26.2011 - I have revisted this remix this weekend and I think its much nastier and sounds a lot better to me now... Will be posting it shortly. I'm holding on to it for a bit... see if it sounds good to me before I release it publicly.
3.5 - totally revamped patches and tried to get a better mixdown. If there is enough demand, I will get it professionally mastered.

I tapped into wintersolsticefest.com and routed some of their streams from Desert Dwellers and Shpongle into my home to then collaborate with some sets with my fellow friends Tongue and Groove and 1313 Effect to bring our communities together.  I finished off the night approximately... I play at about 3h 18m into the experience.  Hope this will take you on a beautiful music journey for hours.

Meta Zen : a mission of healing through art.
Meta Zen is a multimedia art project comprising djing, music production, dancing, event production, visual art, photography, apparel, web development, technological programming, poetry, and jewelry. Mauricio Zuniga was born in Costa Rica in 1977 and started to DJ in 1996 while at University of Pennsylvania. He now resides in Portland, OregonMauricio owned and built the psychedelic record shop, ChaosExistence.com. For 6 years, Chaos Existence was responsible for bringing some of the best psychedelic electronic music to the Pacific Northwest as well as shipping it around the world. He has been an avid dj and dancer contributing to the community. He has also thrown many events bringing world class talent to the PNW. Most notably, Mauricio was responsible for bringing Tipper to the Phoenix Festival in the mid 2000’s and brought acts such as Drumspyder, Kalya Scintilla, Desert Dwellers, Bird of Prey for the first time to Portland, Oregon.
