I find it deeply satisfying to create quirky songs by mixing up genres, instruments, and ambience. I suppose I'm inspired by pop mostly from the 80s, lyrical jazz, a bit of funky something, eclectic drum n bass fusion (e.g. "The Flashbulb"), probably musical theatre from my childhood, and definitely Bach... I love the interweaving of harmonies and counter-melodies. Lastly, I can't resist messing around with offbeat rhythms... Put too much of this into the same mixing pot and it can mess with your head! It's anything but commercial. I do hope some of you out there are inspired by at least some of my kooky stuff...
