The festive season is here and I just hit 2 million plays, so it's a double celebration. Now if, like me, you think that nothing says Christmas like a bit of soul-crushingly dark techstep then I'm sure this festive offering won't disappoint. Indeed, this idea is one I've been sat on for a while; my mixing habits have definitely slowed this year but I really wanted to grind a decent one out before 2025. 

The mix rationale then. Caught up somewhere between my 500th listening of Trace & Ed Rush's legendary '97 One In The Jungle set, and the preceding year's Tech Steppin compilation, I found myself asking a simple question. What if the legendary (and it really is fucking legendary) 'No U-Turn Experience' mix had been made a year earlier? Why don't you ponder that for a minute, grab a large Baileys, pop this on and kick back. Merry Christmas.

[0:13:30] At a lot of festivals the volume in the drum n bass arena is turned down while other genres of music such as House are allowed to play at full volume. Is there a conspiracy against dnb artists? (This was also an issue at Global Gathering 2004).
[0:37:30] Fabio doesn’t think that Calibre – It’s will be released (but it was actually released).
[1:03:20] Fabio recently performed at Accelerated Culture and loved it.
[1:07:20] Technical issues resolved live on air.
[1:18:20] Fabio finds out live on air that Longers(?) has passed away. They then say that for the past 4/5 years one person a year has been passing away, they’re now at that age where that starts happening.
[1:19:20] LTJ Bukem says that the dnb scene in Australia is very strong. Within a year of this broadcast Pendulum will have broken through with Vault.
[1:21:20] LTK Bukem prefers to play sets that are 3+ hours long rather than relatively short sets of an hour or so.
[1:25:00] Even back in 2002 LTJ Bukem was getting hate online.
[1:30:30] “We got inundated with 2 emails” haha
[1:31:50] Interesting to hear about the behind-the-scenes goings on at LTJ Bukem’s label and that artists have walked away from Good Looking Records. “I’ve long since stopped wracking my brains as to why people do certain things”.
[1:34:00] “Holding on to artists is very difficult” – interesting, I would have thought it would have been the other way round and that artists would have never left once they were signed to a label.
[1:34:40] dnb is still a very underground scene in 2002. Fabio doesn’t want it to become mainstream (like garage) with ten dnb tunes in the mainstream charts.
[1:35:50] “Do you think we sell over 100,000 copies of a release!? We don’t even sell a quarter of that!”
[1:38:45] “We’re stronger together”. They reminisce about meeting up with other artists cutting dubplates (presumably at Music House). “Those were the days”.
[1:49:50] Fabio thinks that LTJ Bukem – Horizons is the best dnb tune ever made.
[1:54:30] For all the top DJs music runs their lives. Their passion keeps the scene alive.
