Lenzman & Redeyes: two friends that connected through a shared world-view and love of jazz, soul and underground rap music. Now, well over a decade since their first collaboration, the duo is now set to release an extended project with ‘Wonder Years’. Building on the vibes from their recent efforts ‘Gotta Change’ and ‘Hold Tight Girl’, the EP sees the duo exploring a sound that temporarily abandons their usual melancholy, and draws inspiration from funked-out jungle grooves. There was never a game-plan, just two friends making music that reminded them of a time that could be called the Wonder Years.

Following the release of ‘The Rainmaker EP’ back in 2020 John Rolodex continued to hunker down in the studio, recognising that there was much more to come. Fast forward a couple of years and we’re delighted to welcome John back for a full vinyl EP, one that showcases his love of different styles in a deeply personal manner.
 
The ‘Formless EP’ consists of 5 tracks in its full digital glory, headed up by ‘Depth Of Field’ which draws from many influences and is an example of John’s ongoing study into drawing a groove out over time. With the title track up next the EP becomes suddenly very experimental and boundlessly creative, a piece of music that Goldie didn’t hesitate to jump on. The origins of ‘Tentacle’ go back to 2010, only recently revisited with John’s expanded skill set, whilst ‘Serve No Kings’ brings the renowned Jungle Drummer into the fold for a unique percussive work out. ‘Pagliacci Syndrome’ explores the idea of sadness that we feel compelled to hide, gracefully infused with drum and bass capping off an EP that we and John are very proud of.

Proudly presenting Nookie's debut album for Metalheadz – 'Improvisions'.

A collection of work which Nookie himself calls "the best tracks I've ever written", 'Improvisions' embraces the fact that we don't live in a perfect world. Throughout the project, aided in many parts by Ruth Royall, Nookie expresses his deep-rooted love for the music he's devoted so much of his life to, backed further by a total creative freedom.

As with much of Nookie's music, vocals are a crucial component. Ruth Royall's soul-stirring presence can be heard on six of the album's 13 tracks, including standouts like 'Missing You', 'Part Of Me' and the previously released 'Hero'. Given the vigour and liveliness that both artists exhibit, it is difficult to imagine that they first connected online. Ruth calls working with Nookie "a pleasure right from the start", adding that "the musicality shone through instantly and just sparked endless ideas".

As we head deeper into the album Nookie provides some signature dancefloor fillers in the way of 'Future Forever' and 'Over & Over', as well as lower tempo beats such as '92 Interlude' and 'Smoke Screen'. The assemblage of tracks come together impressively, further cementing Nookie's reputation as one of the most important artists of his kind.

'Improvisions' is released in full on 13th October preceded by a 2-track sampler on 29th September, both pressed onto 12" white vinyl.
