The British producer has been active in the Drum & Bass scene for the last couple of decades, releasing many classic tracks that have withstood the test of time.  Furney is a master of using samples and the Other Soul LP is another example of his keen sampling ear.  He chooses perfect samples from various music genres and crafts perfect grooves that make them come to life.  With releases on Soul Deep Exclusives, Smooth N Groove, Good Looking, Jazzsticks, C.I.A., Phuzion, V Recordings, Liquid Drum & Bass 4 Autism, and many others, Furney continues to impress with his high-quality productions.  

The Other album kicks off with the wicked track, “Ain’t No Love,” which features steady percussive breaks, ominous horn blasts, catchy Reggae-style vocals, and a big sub-bassline that fits the groove like a glove.  The other stand-out tracks from the album include the deep anthem, “Other Soul” the soul-scorching, “Lassiters,” and “Thank You For Listening.”  Overall, the Other Soul LP provides another glimpse into Furney’s unique production mind and proves why he’s one of the most creative minds in the scene. Previously dubbed the "silent assassin" of the Metalheadz camp by Goldie himself, Mikal's music has always been characterised by quality over quantity. The Swedish born, now Bristol-based producer, has the ability to keep his head down in the studio only surfacing when he's satisfied and fulfilled with his sonic creations, something he's held in high esteem for throughout the genre.

His second album on Metalheadz is aptly titled 'Metalwork' and it comes 4 and half years after 'Wilderness', his debut album labelled a "true expedition" by Mixmag and an example of "precision-engineered drum & bass" by Juno. Just like the first album 'Metalwork' contains 16 thunderous tracks, from the opening track 'Journey Into The Reverb' which comes dubbed out and perforated with amen snippets, to the tumultuous temperament of 'Breaks & Pads' which is an instant Metalheadz hit and a linchpin to the whole project.

Collaborations are loosely scattered but perfectly placed as the likes of Visionobi, DJ Thor and RIOT (who has featured on 2 previous Mikal releases) are added into the mix, but for the majority of the album this is Mikal doing what he does best, flaunting his production skills and firmly justifying his position on the label.

Polish born, Jakub Cichocki aka SILENCE GROOVE, has been casting mystic spells in Drum and Bass since the early 2010s. It was always his atmospheric or liquid rollers that were in heavy rotation and attracted labels such as Fokuz, Integral and Hospital to participate in the ride.

However today, in stark contrast to the sentient output for which he was so well known, we see him changing form. A whole new techno inspired universe of sound is emerging - such as his latest release on 31 Records.

Somewhat more restrained, industrial and dark in inspiration, Silence Groove’s latest incarnation is a subtle yet incredibly rich and interesting identity.
