First up we have cohorts DLR & Script with the Headz vocalist of choice Martyna Baker whom you may be familiar from her work with Goldie and Lenzman. 
The track opens as a gliding, subconscious led number that is wrapped in Martyna's velvet vocal. As the track moves towards its drop it becomes clear the vocal is a paranoid and claustrophobic affair and it reflects the instrumental very well in that the beautiful atmos draped intro becomes a mid-range bass led growler....

This second track on sampler one is by Headz veteran Digital donning his dubstep hat. As you would expect with Digital he has taken it right back to the essence of dubstep as opposed to what it has become. Delay and reverb laden, Mini Cooper is sinister in its execution. It's a single light moving around a dark dancehall, typical Digital vibes on this, it's a welcome return to the label for Mr Carr.

This 2 of 2 sampler for Platinum Breakz is a dancefloor led affair for DJs and dancers alike, but after you begin unwrapping the layers there is altogether different beast at hand.

On the AA side of this sampler we have two graduates from the university of Rufige - Loxy & Resound. Their contribution to the project is ‘Paradigms’, It’s classic Headz flavour in that it’s a perfect mix of light and dark. The intro is all about swirling synths, haunting vocals and effected percussion until the reese drops and the landscape quickly changes into a breakbeat accented step and three dimensional EFX.

Available as a ltd white label 10" vinyl stamped with the Metalheadz logo and signed by the artists, this will be an essential purchase for any serious Metalheadz collector!

First on the double A side we have the triumvirate of Glenn & Zula A.I and DRS with Warhorse - A very apt title for a very powerful, uncompromising and snarling stepper, DRS spits venom and gives way to a screwface-bassline that envelopes everything in its path. A relative newcomer to Headz but no newcomer to the craft, Om Unit has in one way found his way back home as a student of early Metalheadz and then making his name within other genres. Timelines is a B-boy anthem of breaks, subs and bongos. Om Unit’s contributions to Headz have been very stand-out, just check the way Timelines moves from B-boy breaks anthem into dub soundsystem shaker- which indeed was a timeline for our very genre.

Comparisons are easy to make but it really does feel like Bi-polar tread the same path as former Headz artists Hidden Agenda, and listening to Interlude it’s easy to hear why. The juxtaposition of stepping drums and deep bass against the soulful flourishes in the track really encapsulate that classic Headz soul.

Friends and sparring partners Jubei and Consequence deliver perhaps one of the most dark tracks on the album. When we say dark we don’t mean horror- this is menacing, it has a huge foreboding sense of doom and hysteria. The track really feels like it’s in a straight jacket being transported between cells.

If you weren’t already aware Ivy Lab are a very talented trio consisting of Sabre, Stray and Halogenix, The guys collaborated with Hydro for 'Make It Clear' and all four minds can be clearly heard in the track, it doesn't end there however - The vocal duet of Mr Carter and Miss Annika trade phrases to great effect. Make it clear is a slice of soul that really resonates with the listener.

It’s hard to believe this is the debut track by Calibre on Metalheadz, and it’s already a firm dancefloor favourite thanks to its skipping drums and variants in bass. The drums have the unmistakeable Calibre air to them, the air that grabs you by the hips and demands you move and paired with the aforementioned screwface bass, it really is a foregone conclusion that you're going to move.

Staccato drums are the order of the day with The Ascent, the drums play with the bass to make a huge groove that encourages unseen shapes on the dancefloor. It’s very grimy but oh so dancefloor, and it’s a welcome return to Metalheadz for The Invaderz.

The most emotive Ulterior Motive track up this point, the duo continue to bring their unique palette of colour to Headz. The intro features the work of Will Manning, a friend of the pair who plays violin and sets the tone for something very dramatic whilst painting brushstrokes against the blank canvas. Listen from start to finish to really understand the battle between good and evil encapsulated within the song.
