This collection begins with an extremely rare single by the beat band The Playboys, which Alex played for as a 16-year-old.  LP 1 documents the early years of Türkrock; LP 2 the golden age of AOE, during which the band appeared multiple times on Rockpalast and on Rock Life; and LP 3 the more recent past.  The collection boasts a plethora of studio rarities and live gems.  The set of three LPs (with a booklet full of images and a bonus CD featuring Alex talking about his many years of musical experience) is the most ambitious project Meyer Records has worked on so far.

Die Karriere des Musikers Alex Wiska Karriere begann bereits 1961, seine erste Bands waren Famous Four und die Kölner Beatband Playboys, später ging er nach New York und sammelte dort Erfahrungen in der Clubszene. Entscheident für die heute von ihm bekannte Musik war aber sein Aufenthalt Anfang der 70er Jahre in der Türkei. Er erhielt dort nicht nur goldene Schallplatten für zwei seiner Songs, sondern entdeckte auch die SAZ, ein türkisches Saiteninstrument. Es prägte seine Kompositionen, Alex elektrifizierte es und machte daraus ein Rockinstrument. Nach seiner Rückkehr war es dann nicht mehr ganz so überraschend, dass er mit den Musikern Holger Czukay und Jaki Liebezeit von der Kultband Can zusammentraf, die sein erstes Album Alex produzierten. Diese Stücke lassen die orientalischen Klänge schon sehr deutlich werden, besonders auf Seite 1 der nun vorliegenden Compilation. Seite 2 bietet dagegen sowohl rockige Stücke als auch Balladen, von denen Easy Come besonders gefühlvoll klingt. Seine erstklassige Musik machte auch Musiker und Bands wie Frank Zappa oder Bad Company aufmerksam, sie luden Alex zu ihren Tourneen ein! 1980 gründete er seine eigene Schallplattenfirma Wiska Records und produzierte mit Conny Plank die erste Live-LP, die Stücke daraus sind eigentlich der Höhepunkt dieses ganzen Sets! Mit welcher Leidenschaft er Musik macht, wie intensiv seine unzähligen Liveauftritte (u.a. im legendären Rockpalast) sind, davon erzählen diese drei LPs in beeindruckender Weise. Seine vielseitigen Kompositionen lassen sich auch nicht in wenigen Zeilen beschreiben, sie überschreiten die Grenzen der Rockmusik, öffnen sich den orientalischen Klangwelten, aber auch andere Spielarten. Alex Wiska ist eine der schillerndsten Figuren der deutschen Szene der 70er bis hinein in die 90er Jahre. Diese Anthology ist auf 300 Stück limitiert! Das Cover ist als Schuber ausgeführt und beherbergt neben den drei sorgfältig gepressten und sogar in Nagaoka-Hüllen steckenden 180g - LPs auch ein 16-seitiges Booklet und eine CD auf der Alex von seiner Erfahrung in über 40 Jahre Rockmusik erzählt! British alternative-folk musician, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Robert Coyne returns this June with a new album, his third now with long-time collaborator (and pioneering drummer of the avant-garde Krautrock band Can) Jaki Liebezeit. The follow-up to the pair’s 2013 album The Obscure Department and 2015’s Golden Arc, I Still Have This Dream finds the pair in contemplative moods.  

Adopting a similar approach to their work as on previous releases together, and masterfully executed, Coyne meditates on the themes of self-delusion, miscommunication, isolation, and misunderstanding, saying that some of the time it’s “just me talking to myself”. All the while Liebezeit’s famous metronomic drumming style instils a sense of calm into this quiet storm. I Still Have This Dream is the product of two stand-alone artists who have come to know each other’s strengths by heart, and developed the ability to complement these in the most exhilaratingly quiet, and stirring, way. Coyne describes their partnership as “especially dream-like.”

In the same way that ideas and lyrics gently and naturally surface from Coyne, I Still Have This Dream sets its stall out as an album that rewards investigation. It is intimate, introverted almost, in its experimentation but with a maturity and lyrical confidence that conspire to create atmospheres of melancholia and suspense. Liebezeit’s style ensures that he only plays what needs to be there, providing the perfect pacing for Coyne’s meditative couplets. Speaking of this contradiction, Coyne has previously said; “I think the music is quite peaceful, and meditative, but there's tension in it, too, and in the lyrics, which are generally quite dark ... I think that conflict represents my feelings and personality quite well, and may not be a conflict at all, in fact ...”

About Robert Coyne: 

Robert Coyne is the son of the late 2004 musician, painter and author Kevin Coyne . He initially worked as a musician, among other things with his father Kevin Coyne, with Eric Burdon , The Barracudas, The Scientists , Amy Rigby, Spooky Tooth , Sky Saxon and Chris Wilson of the Flamin 'Groovies , just to name a few. 

About Jaki Liebezeit: 

Liebezeit is best known for his exceptional "metronome" style of playing; other members of Can have suggested that he sounds as though he is "half-man, half machine". Liebezeit provided drums, in his patented "Motorik beat", for Michael Rother's late-1970s solo albums. In 1980, he became a member of Phantomband. Later he recorded with numerous musicians, such as Jah Wobble and Philip Jeck, with whom he produced an album for Jah Wobble's 30 Hertz Records, and has contributed drums and percussion to many albums as a guest throughout the years, such as the Depeche Mode album Ultra and Brian Eno's album Before and After Science. Recently, he has worked with Burnt Friedman on the Secret Rhythms albums.

MEYER RECORDS, founded in May 2005 by well-known graphic designer and theater photographer Werner Meyer, quickly established itself as a small but hip cult label in the "audiophile scene".

The Cologne record label became renowned nationwide and received air time in 2006 with the release of the first sampler VOLUME ONE. LP – Magazin für Analoges HiFi & Vinylkultur says, "[...] Album of the year 2006: Superb song selection, great voices: MORE!" while Deutschlandradio Kultur calls the album "[...] an excellent compilation that inspires listeners to explore the individual artists' work more closely." 
 
The Blues album BONES by two-time recipient of the German vinyl award, Richard Bargel, was released in 2007 and stayed on AMAZON's top seller list for weeks. BLUESNEWS magazine comments, "… without a question one of the best German acoustic productions of the year!" 
 
MEYER RECORDS productions adhere to high quality standards in regard to recording technology, mastering (Pauler Acoustics) and pressing. "[...] Her [Esther Fellner, Via del Campo] audio engineering truly makes the sound come alive in between the speakers, further creating an impression of proximity and intensity – very close to hearing it live” (Matthias Böde, Editor-in-chief STEREO 2008).
 
The 2009 recording of MARIA PIHL's debut "MALVINA" marks the first large international order from Sweden [Border].  New copies of the CDs and vinyl had to be produced after just 14 days. MEYER RECORDS products are now also distributed to record stores in Japan, Hong Kong and the USA by the high-end manufacturer "clearaudio" from Erlangen, Germany. 
 
Top international distributor ROUGH TRADE will take over distribution in June 2010. MEYER RECORDS CDs and vinyl are now available in Saturn and Media Markt stores. Music downloads will also be available from MEYER RECORDS for the first time with the release of the live album "Richard Bargel w/ Major Heuser (ex-BAP member)".
