Heardman - Leuca

Rough Sketches’ is a continuous journey through a typical session between Warren Xclnce and Reiss G. The London based duo have been collaborating for the best part of two years progressing their sound design from hard hitting beat-work to down-tempo and experimental electronica. 

This project sees both their influences and styles amalgamated into a 25 min uninterrupted continuous–play session which began as a drafted beat tape but has since developed into something more unique featuring world recordings, local inspiration, vocal features and elaborate sound design. 

Reiss and Warren are currently undergoing a creative transition as a collaborative entity so expect a few projects in the near future as they develop their sound and both continue to work on their own respective solo projects.

This Spirit Jazz mix highlights the mystery, the intrigue, the insurmountable strength and power, the abundance, the nurturance, the everlasting beauty that has sprung forth from that darkness and is encapsulated in nature as well as within Black people. Blackness: it is this unknown, receptive energy that absorbs and has the power to destroy, transform, and create something new. We dropped their debut single on the label back in March and it instantly caught on with all the sweet soul fans. This new 7” showcases the funkier, jazzier but equally soulful side of Brainstory. Their debut album “Buck”, produced entirely by Leon Michels is due out in October of 2019.The A side, “Breathe”, takes a page out of the Shuggie Otis playbook and then flips the script with some stoned out, west coast swag. In the words of Kevin, Brainstory’s lead chanteur, “Breathe is a song about letting go of the emotional baggage of our lives in order to become who we truly are. Before this new journey can happen we got to stop back and take a breath. Relax. Use the power of this simple act to become your higher self.”Side B, “Sorry” keeps on with the same swagger as Breathe but finds brother and bass player extraordinaire, Tony, taking over the vocal duties. Brainstory - Breathe - BC085-45 - Side A

A Quest Called Tribe begins with the series of portraits drawn by Stéphane Carricondo in 2017 dedicated to Hip Hop legends.
As close partner in art Medline proposed to create a soundtrack for them, and first interpreting ATCQ's classics with elements of the past, present and future.

The best way to materialize this multidimensional tribute was obviously a vinyl. And it's the one we unveil today.

On the visual side:
ATCQ's portraits are composing the front cover and, assembled into a great scene, are printed on a colorful A2 poster. Stéphane Carricondo's natural lines are highlighting each member's soul map. The alchemy of the dark ink on emptiness gives to them an impressive sparkle of life .

On the musical side:
The classic themes are transformed into a polymorphic fusion, were jazz, funk and soul from the original sample sources converse with Tribe's characteristic beats. Medline added a hint of his magic, unique rhythms, improvisations, arrangements, original orchestration and inspired melodies.

The album is an ode to the band that marked both artist's life and mind. A cultural print and school of sound that designed Hip Hop foundations. With a blooming expression Medline and Stéphane Carricondo are going to the roots of ATCQ in a quest for the tribe.

You can’t not be a weirdo as a good musician. 
MEZ is both. Based in Vienna/Austria the producer of Jewish descent has been making beats for years. It’s natural to him, like other people brush their teeth or eat cereals in the morning. Not a day at home has gone by without Mez blasting his stereo in his small but well equipped studio for his neighbors to go crazy. Yes, he uses a lot of deep bass. 
Throughout the years Mez has adapted refined beat making skills. His ear for sound nuances is merciless. Technic and innovation, or “je-ne-sais-quoi”, has created the perfect synergy. By the way, his artist name Mez is derived from the Hebrew word “Mezuian”, meaning “perfect”. 
His keyboard playing with its melancholic harmonization merges with his strong Dilla-esque beats that jump his mind. Layered to perfection, NuSoul goes Gangster!
2013 soul singer SOIA and Mez released their debut album “Mood swings” on record breakin’ (USA), and their next album “Hidden in Obvious Places” will be released in 2015. Otherwise Mez is best known for his productions on Raashan Ahmad’s album “Ceremony”.
His solo album featuring Raashan Ahmad, SOIA and other Viennese artists will be out soon!
