(Afrobeta Bodega / Kyoto Deep)

Max Pela is “a DJ’s DJ”. He shows up with a smile, selects the first track, then sculpts every facet of the sonic environment to his precise vision, until the last sound wave emanates from the speakers hours later. His music is Deep Afro, Soulful, Tech and intense; graying boundaries between genres. Constantly seeking variety [in uncommon sounds in each genre], the mixture of these genres, creativity, and the search for that specific sound. He has a fondness for new and non-conventional producers. His mixing is patient and flawless and his personality is respected; his performance revered all over.

Born in 1982 in Santo Domingo (the capital of the Dominican Republic), Latin America’s new mecca for electronic music. His musical journey began in his childhood as a percussionist at The National Conservatory of Music in Santo Domingo. By the late 90′s he began to DJ, and in 2000 he became the resident DJ of Ocho  Puertas in Santo Domingo. He also traveled, performing in some of the most prestigious venues of the island. In late 2003, he left home for the United States. In 2006 he became resident to Carlos Mena’s BEMBE party in Miami and Boston, where he began to gain recognition in the United States and around the world. In December 2008, he began working with Adam Gibbons on UHURU AFRIKA, a monthly party in Boston. In 2011, he became resident DJ for ARE YOU AFRO?, a monthly party in NYC started by Gale Murphy. Currently, Max continues his journey of Afro-Rooted Rhythms in AFROBETA BODEGA, his production company, and House of Pela, a monthly party in Boston with Jorge Serra (Afrobeta Bodega) and Jay Medina (Afrobeta Bodega/JMVJ), while traveling the world and bringing his unique Afro sound.

Afrobeta Bodega is a multifaceted website and media entity specializing in promoting afro house music and underground culture. An international hub reaching trendsetting, multicultural urbanities and providing relevant information for early adopters and the musically forward. It is also the home of Afrobeta Bodega Radio, which features sets from carefully selected new talent, as well as live recordings from the many parties that Max performs at.

Max has worked with many international talents such as Ounlade, Louie Vega, Boddhi Satva, Black Coffee, Culoe De Song, Zepherin Saint, Jose Marquez, Dj Djeff Afrozilla, Lou Gorbea, Tony Touch, Stan Zeff, Zaki Ibrahim, Adam Gibbons, Oscar P, Josh Milan, Helen Ting, ex-Fela Drummer and co-creator of Afrobeat Tony Allen, Femi Kuti, Siji, Carlos Mena, Roberto Zayas, Djinji Brown, Nickodemus, Quantic,  Mr. V, Ezel, Sabo, Manchild Black, Julius The Mad Thinker, King Britt, Santos, Wumni, Abicah Soul, Rich Medina, Fabio Genito, Master Kev, Myrto Joyce, Duce Martinez, Oveous Maximus, Brian Burnside, Stephen Rigmaiden, PolyRhythm, Dj Sabine, Saeed Younan and Hyper, among others.

Radio Desperado is resident dj in the latin pub Barlaban and has spread his vibes at Couleur Café, Polé Polé Beach, Dranouter, Balkan Sonic (UK) and many more!!

He shared the decks with Buscemi, Merdan Taplak, Soulshakers, TLP, 4T4 and the Turntable Dubbers! He is also part of the crew that organises Kokopelli, a 3-day multicultural festival in the Far West-Flanders.

On top of that he presents a radioshow about world music together with his friend Ruby Roots. The show is called 'Radio Esperanto' and plays on Quindo!

☆ Cliff came in touch with one of his biggest passions, music, at a very young age.
Because of his love for the music and his knowledge of several styles of music he started as an all-round DJ in 1993.

He played his music in many trendy bars, clubs and events.
After 10 years of allround DJ-experience he decided to focus on house music, this with great success.

Baltic Balkan - Party Like The Last Time in Your Life! 
Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital, was always the meltdown of the Baltic, Jewish,  Polish, Tatar, Karaite, German and Gypsy cultures. The homeland of Jascha Hefeitz, where every traditionalist backyard was still listening to the klezmer music wind coming from the East and the South, it is also a starting point for the Baltic Balkan project. This musical and performance artist endeavor was inspired by listening to original Yugoslav punk rock, as well as countless musical festivals in Europe and movies with a true Balkan (and Baltic) spirits. Three men and a dog appeared on Baltic clubbing scene in the year 2008.  The Baltic Balkan took Lithuanian audience by storm, as everyone was longing for true fire in dance and drinking. The Baltic Balkan performances visited clubs and concert halls in major Baltic cities, as well as  festivals. The Baltic Balkan has hosted three series of incredibly successful Balkan parties – “Baltic Balkan Bang”, “Caravan” and the recent “Balkanaktis”.

After gaining the experience of playing alongside such an acts as „Fanfara Ciocarlia” (Romania), „Dubioza Kolektiv”(Bosnia), „Slobodan Salijevic Orkestar”(Serbia), „Colectiff Istambul” (Turkey), „Balkan Khans” (Bulgaria), „Romengo” and „Söndörgö” (Hungary), „Gypsy Hill“ (UK), Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha, Dalindeo (Finland), „Tibble Transibirisska“, „Süperstar Orkestar“ (Sweden), „El Remolón“, „La Yegros“(Argentina), „Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra“ (Spain), Inculto (LT), and DJs – Shantel, Robert Soko, Dunkelbunt, Dj Click, Gaetano Fabri, Gypsy Sound System, Tactical Groove Orbit, Dj Little Tune, Gypsy Box, Dj Grounchoo, Captain Cumbia, Malalata, DJ AK, La Bolschevita, Belaj Kru Sound, Dj SebCat, Funklore, Boris Viande, Warsaw Balkan Madness, Dj Pontell, Papa BO, ZhamoZha, SuperStereo and Mondo Cane. The Baltic Balkan company lead their way to the free world. They have set the nights on fire in Liepaja, Vespils, Riga, Tallinn, Krakow, Lodz, Gdansk, Warsaw, Prag, Brno, Bratislava, Žilin, Wiesbaden, Nurnberg, Frankfurt, Berlin, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Ås, Oslo, Leksand, Stockholm, Paris, Amiens, Grenoble, Lion, Brussels, Gent, Antwerpen, Fribourg, Geneve, Segovia, Sevilla, Barcelona, London and Prishtina. The crew was invited to open the Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow, Poland, "Laba Daba" in Latvia, “GoEast” Film Festival in Wiesbaden, Germany, “Nuit Blanche” Amiens Festival in France, “Balkan Fever Helsinki” in Finland, "Rumpus" and “Boomtown Fair 2018/2019” in UK, gala party “Prishtina Film Festival” in Kosovo and have performed at “Volt 2011” and "Sziget 2013" in Hungary alongside their heroes "Mahalai Rai Banda", "Parno Graszt", Kusturica "The No Smoking Orchestra", "Balkanik 2017" in Bucharest with Fanfare Ciocârlia feat. Adrian Raso & Devi's Tale, Kolektif Istanbul, Yasmine Hamdan, "Lyon Gypsy Festival 2019" in France and 2023 with Balkan Beats Tokio in Japan.

Discography:
Debut album "Katapulta" EP released in August 3, 2012 on Maasto Records, Finland is a unique collaboration between two driving forces in the Vilnius alternative world music scene; the fire-setting balkan / gypsy / klezmer DJ unit Baltic Balkan, and the minimal post brass outfit Banda Dzeta. 
In 2015 started a collaboration with French DJs, MCs and producers - Dj Click, MC Kasper (Monkey Theorem), Boris Viande and Tactical Groove Orbit. Resulting in nice tours and fresh remixes. Also features a collab with Fanfara Transilvania (Ro) and a Dubioza Kolektiv (BiH) remix.
In 2016 released second EP "Balkantinnitus"  on Vlad Ghetto Folk Label, Paris. 
Klezmer inspired EP "Litvish" 2017, released also on Vlad Ghetto Folk Label, Paris.
In 2019 in coloboration with Swedish band Tibble Transibirisska and most popular Hip Hop band in LT singer Kastetas released remake of song "Hop Hop Digiday".
In 2023 was released The New (first LP) Baltic Balkan album “Bazaar“.
The New Baltic Balkan album “Bazaar“ can be described like a 2 year long journey from North Africa to Lithuania. Crossing the Gibraltar and recording the song „Lento“with the majestic Spanish singer Sandra Carrillo, enriching the song with Spanish rhythms and passion.
Next stop a wedding in the Balkans which results in a major 2 day hangover. After that is Berlin, the club Panke, where the band collaborates with a local Lithuanian MC Liežuvis and create the song „Lietus“. Quick trip back to Lithuania to record the summer hit Bum Pam.
Not staying too long at home it is off to the land of the raising sun – Japan. Where our travelling Lithuanian gypsies meet the band „Otoji + Ray“ from the local „Balkan Beats“ movement. They collaborate together in the track “Jebel tariq“, which our Japanese friends include in their current repertoire.
Back at home, the records are crowned by the collaboration with musician/actor Mantas Zemleckas, from the Lithuanian band „Kamanių Šilelis“ on the Jew harp and mandolin.
Bazzar is an album that will take you on a journey you to distant lands and experiences.
