Speaking on the new track, Natalie shared: 

“Have you ever wanted to get over someone so much that you figuratively bury them? 'Closure' is the journey you take to finally slamming the door on that person. It's a high energy middle finger to your once beloved.  What I imagine people doing when they listen to this song is bouncing around singing the chorus at the top of their lungs - I wanted to create something that is anthemic but also full of humour.  Because sometimes, crying and laughing are not so different from one another. 

When you are suffering from loss & grief from a bond that's been broken, the emotions you feel are very complex and numerous, the facets of a break up are many - like a rainbow.  This idea interests me because rainbows are always seen as positive, and I believe going through that range of feeling is also positive because it's a necessary process FOR closure.  

So I brought this rainbow idea, which is also a big image in the song's chorus, to all of the creative ideas for the single campaign too – the idea of reflection, refraction and spectrum – what is necessary to achieve closure.”

Making her first steps into music when she won a national song writing competition judged by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, Natalie McCool has excelled. 

Releasing her album ‘The Great Unknown’ in 2016, it has made tastemakers across the board fans of her exceptional art, with notable supports with Aurora & Jamie Lawson, & acclaim from The Sunday Times, Q, Pigeons & Planes & Wonderland as well as BBC Radio 1 DJs Huw Stephens & Alice Levine.

Fully wrapped up, her forthcoming album is a fine collection of songs which channel her raw, inimitable writing style. Partly co-written with The Wombats' Daniel Haggis, they capture and crystallize her memories from both childhood and adulthood, weaving deeply intimate stories that channel life's most vital thoughts and feelings like love, jealousy and loss into a skewed mixture of lilting yet gloriously catchy pop songs.

‘End Credits’ is a nihilistic yet optimistic track about slipping into the unknown of the afterlife. Musically joyous, lyrically dower this track perfectly sums up the highs and lows of realising our human condition as we hopelessly and defiantly trudge towards the end.

Troubling Times

My song The Imposter was in a small way inspired by the video game "Among Us" funny enough. In order to win the game, you need to find the Imposter, a secret member of the group that is trying to stay hidden while getting other players out of the game. 

This made me think a lot about “Imposter Syndrome" and how you think everyone will eventually find out that you are a fraud. The lyrics start with how to find “The Imposter”, how they’re all around you but they’ll say they had to pretend to fit in. One of my favorite ways to describe Imposter Syndrome is in the line, “She tried to run, but thinking you’re the best is kinda fun”, as I have experienced the feeling of being chosen as the best out of a group of people, and for a few minutes it feels great, and then the doubt seeps in and you develop a fear of being discovered as not worthy.

Then it gets revealed that the narrator is the imposter and that they finally reveal this when they expected to be found out. “I told you when I was feeling pretty scared the charade would end.” This is my favorite part of the song lyrically, as I love connecting scars to lies, and how not being true to yourself is a double edge sword.

I think some doubt isn’t a bad thing. Overconfidence can be dangerous as well as not feeling confident at all. Personally, I’ve felt enormous doubt as a singer and a songwriter. The anxiety that I’m not good enough and that everything I write and sing is horrible are thoughts that often go through my head. This song is in dedication to the part of me that feels like an imposter, and that it's not the way to live. 

I hope this song can help people that also struggle with their self-worth, as well as finding ways to cope with their anxiety through the support of friends and family.
