A symbolic representation of the saṃsāra (or the wheel of life). It can be read as a diagram of the six different types of existence one can be born into during the intermediate rounds of saṃsāra. It can be read as a symbol of each of the different realms of human existence, lived by certain types of people according to their karma. Or it can be read as a description of situations or states of consciousness that everyone goes through over and over again in the course of a single day.
