Introducing an Australian duo on the rise, Human Movement make their debut on Defected with a smart dual single demonstrating buckets of natural talent. ‘Run It By Me’ features indie-style vocals from Eliot Porter and ‘Help A Brother Out’, with its more direct club approach, show a depth of house music knowledge that has so far caught the attention of the likes of Joris Voorn and Richie Hawtin. They recently had one of their live mixes featured by Resident Advisor as their ‘Mix Of The Day’ and have gained support from Triple J, Beats 1 Radio and BBC Radio 1. Here on a straight house tip, the title track is a sparky melodic house track with a quintessentially Defected soulful vibe, whereas ‘Help A Brother Out’ uses cowbell accents over a compelling rolling bassline. Drew Millers Melodia Assombrada truly conveys its ghostly being into your soul. Pulsing bass and eidolic sounds appear and disappear creating a wave of energetic motion throughout, an apparition of melodic emotion to haunt your dancers.

German techno engineer Torsten Kanzler brings the demonic nature of the haunted melody to the fore with his no nonsense up front techno wraith of a track, something designed to slay dancefloors with it's phantasmal rhythms and drive.

Bringing up the B-Side, a contrast to the depth and melodic of the A-Side, we're presented with Acid House "Lanty Slee", driving, drunkenly happy and energetic just as it's namesake would want you, cheekily twisting your mind and body up into a firewater dance of fun.

Husky returns with a club ready deep house cut featuring the vocals of US based vocalist, Letta. Jacked up beats, deep chords and pulsing bass are in thick supply here, as Husky combines his usual soulful elements with a slightly grittier groove. It's ripe and ready.

On the remix we have the UK born but globally known house producer, Scott Diaz. Fresh from recently remixing records for Defected, Peppermint Jam, Lovejuice Records and Blockhead Recordings, Scott always brings a fresh and unique flavor to a remix. Taking the original melodies and adding his own vocal cuts he has morphed this remix into a funky but soulful rendition, lathered in his usual bouncing bass and dreamy chord progressions. Offering up glimpses of his garage roots also, this really is a class remix that will stand up for the ages.

Mangabey is the new kid in the Toy Tonics crew. Jazz piano virtuoso, synth collector and producer of magnificent funk house tracks. Born in the south of France in a family of traveling artists. As a kid he has been living on a boat and in caravans, traveling France and Africa with his parents' wild theater collective. Jose Fehner aka Mangabey had for sure an adventurous life.
 
But while all his family consists of actors - Jose is a music boy. He started playing piano at age of 6 and later studied Jazz at the conservatory. He also started Hip Hop production at age of 15 and became a mad collector of Afro-American music. While finishing his piano studies he felt in love with synthesizers and by now he is quite a wizard when he plays all his rare keyboards live. 

Mangabey at the moment loves to make 4 to the floor-tracks. He plays most instruments himself and creates mad energetic trips full of soulish vibes and funky solos. Reminding the vibe of Nuyorican Soul or the West London scene from 20 years ago. But Jose Mangabey has his own touch. An own mood. Extremely funky, organic sounding, warm vibing and tight like shit. Very contemporary. An atmosphere that fits perfectly with the vibes of his French friend Foulamour - who added a remix for this EP.

Rarely does an artist pay homage to the classics like Dimitri From Paris. The Grammy nominated producer, remixer, composer and DJ has made every one of his repertoire of reworks sound effortless; no mean feat when the original tracks are by the likes of Disco’s greatest musicians. He has a long history of remixing classic records, starting in the late 80s and culminating in this achievement of a lifetime, ‘Dimitri From Paris presents Le CHIC Remix’.

This 20-track album features three brand new remixes alongside the much-loved essentials all brilliantly remastered for 2018, tracks that have resonated with artists from Frankie Knuckles to Disclosure, Gilles Peterson to Mark Ronson. Alongside the remixes are instrumentals of each (four of which are previously unreleased), for the ultimate bumper pack. For this project Dimitri was entrusted to use the original studio masters from circa 1978 - 1980 that feature all of the individually recorded musical and vocal elements. The songs have been respectfully remastered, unveiling never-before-heard performances, turning the spotlight on the beautiful orchestrations of one the most unique and highly-revered production duos of the Disco era and beyond; Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards, along with their CHIC Organization of musicians.

Kicking off with the unmistakeable CHIC staple ‘Le Freak’, Dimitri’s timeless remix making the exquisite instrumental harmonies shine like only Dimitri can, the album delves next into ‘Lost In Music’ and CHIC’s classic ‘I Want Your Love’. Norma Jean Wright’s life-affirming ‘Saturday’, written by CHIC along with Robert L Cotter in 1978, has been remixed by Dimitri to cinematic proportions, the climax of many of his DJ sets. Sister Sledge’s ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’ is given the Dimitri treatment with a new extended mix, drawing out the string motifs, showcasing unheard sections from the original master tapes, sounding better than ever. Further exclusives include ‘My Forbidden Lover’ and another Sister Sledge masterpiece, ‘Got To Love Somebody’ with cowbell and horns resplendent. More highlights include a new remaster of Sister Sledge’s evergreen ‘Thinking Of You’ and the final track, an underdog from French chanson singer turned one-time Disco act, Sheila & B. Devotion ‘Your Love Is Good’, a euphoric high to close on and another track using elements from never-heard-before recorded outtakes.

Through Disco grooves and meticulously reverent production, ‘Dimitri From Paris presents Le CHIC Remix’ gets to the heart of why CHIC’s music remains so universally relevant, underlining the enduring cultural significance of dance music in its most unabashed form. This album is a demonstration of how captivating the sound of a full orchestra of musicians can be, compared to today’s largely computer generated offerings, celebrating the eternally endearing qualities of some of CHIC’s best-selling productions, not to mention, for over 40 years, the unquestionable power of a great Disco record.
