This project was done in class. Also, I recorded this as a gift to my wonderful girlfriend, and thought that maybe others may like it as well. I hope you enjoy!

Absolutely Smitten - Doddleoddle

Ok, so, in the midst of all my project overload, I managed to get this finished and out into the world.

This started off back in March when the lovely to-ka-ro (http://instagram.com/tokaro.art/, http://to-ka-ro.tumblr.com/, http://to-ka-ro.deviantart.com/) decided to paint the gorgeous Lapis Lazuli, a fictional character whom I have waaaaay too big a crush on, as a birthday present. She started on it while selling art at the local mall, and I was there for moral support (I'm the booth babe :P) both for her and her awesome boyfriend voca-lee. I happened to bring my Gameboy along because I figured I'd get some practice in working in LSDj, and decided I wanted to cover Lapis' theme from the show, because it's an awesome piece of music and god I love it. So we ended up agreeing to use the piece she was doing as the artwork for the track whenever I got around to posting it and she got around to finishing it. Which just so happened to be right around now. 

I'm still learning LSDj, I'm nowhere near Danimal Cannon level yet, but I have to say this is the most interesting piece I've done in it so far. I'm surprised at how big I got the beat to sound with just the WAV and NOI channels. I'll admit though, the kick is buffed up with a sample. As much as I love the Gameboy, I just can't seem to nail my kicks with it yet, so I layered a nice, bass heavy 909 kick underneath the whole thing. Then, because I'd just recently picked up an awesome sampled piano, I decided to toss that in during the breakdown, as well as close the track with it. 

And because I will never be satisfied with only a single cover of Lapis' theme, I'm also working on an orchestrated version of it. It'll be somewhat different than this arrangement wise, but I'll hopefully have that finished sometime soon. I'm branching out into new styles I've not worked with before, and working with a more orchestral style is something I've generally avoided in the past due to how complex it is to do with samples. Plus, I figured I needed something to start with for practice, why not go with something I'm pretty familiar with?
