It's always a pleasure to be invited to this campout, and to share the DJ booth with talented friends old and new. This set is another step in the direction of a sound I call "tech bass" - a fusion of house percussion with broken bass lines under tech-y melodics and hip vocals.

Solid Steel (6th December) We continue our run of 30th anniversary shows with Gerd Janson, who is one of the most highly respected DJs in the world of house and techno and also the brain behind the Running Back label, an imprint that has been a home to numerous artists over the years. It’s testament to Janson’s curatorial instinct that music both popular – Tensnake, Todd Terje – and cult – Maurice Fulton, Theo Parrish – feel right at home. In addition to his work helming Running Back, Janson has also teamed up with Philip Lauer under the Tuff City Kids alias. He told us;
"Against all obstacles (technical, time, taste), you are listening to 60 minutes of old (Don Laka (Hello Hunee)). older (James Booth), brand-new (Sascha Funke / Niklas Wandt) and unreleased music (Genius of Time). The Ninja Tune wheels of steels megamix, I always planned on doing, is still far from becoming reaity, but at least, Peggy Gou made the cut via the I:Cube treatment. I hope you enjoy the show."

Solid Steel - the world’s longest running mix series - returns with a special two-hour mix from Ben UFO.

Speaking to us about the mix, Ben said: “This is the set I played at last year's Meakusma Festival. It's been one of my favourite events for the past three years running, and I've programmed a stage at the last two editions. Last summer I was joined by Kara-Lis Coverdale, Jay Glass Dubs and the Timedance crew - Batu, Ploy and Bruce. It's one of the only events I can think of where dance music co-exists with a broad range of experimental music in a way that feels natural, unpretentious and unforced. I love it there, and hopefully that comes across in this recording."

Returning for 2019 in a new, more focussed monthly format, continuing Solid Steel’s long history of supporting the best of both established and emerging artists.
