Maverick, whimsical and anchored tight. 8Foot Felix’s magical brand of dancing music is crafted from gypsy, ska and funk roots, spiced with the salty taste of sea shanties, vibrant splashes of hip-hop and blues.  Every gig is an epic journey that frays the fabric of time and space. The audience warms to our quirky musical theatricality, lights up when the beat kicks in, and cooks itself into a glowing, jumping, unified joy-field! Singer/keyboardist and chief composer Will Tait, known as much for his thespian talents as his on-stage antics with 8FF, delivers tantalising melodies and a poetic rolling lyric.  Ably supported by the enigmatic chanteuse Susie Hopkins and the horns of Brendan Jones (Trumpet) and Tom Starr (French Horn), the band is rhythmically bonded by the junket beats of Steve Turnock.  Aural intricacies are provided by string-fellows Esther Henderson (Fiddle) and Jamie McElhinney (Double Bass). 

After ofﬁcially launching in May 2011, 8Foot Felix played an intensive string of shows in their hometown of Melbourne, soon after setting sail for distant lands and the renowned Burning Man festival in Nevada, USA.  Subsequent triumphant shows in San Francisco and Honduras were met with similarly heightened enthusiasm, and set the tone for an exciting summer back in Melbourne.  A stomping Friday night gig at Rainbow Serpent Festival helped plot the course for a big 2012, and that’s exactly what it’s turned out to be.  Captain's Log EP was recorded and launched to a sold out and pulsating Regal Ballroom in October, and now the summer season begins.

Matt Singmin (aka SOLON) is an English electronic musician based in Sydney, Australia.  He writes meditative electronic music, drawing on the studio as a whole to create absorbing and detailed compositions which incorporate analog synthesisers, orchestral instruments and vintage digital effects. 
 
His initial releases (‘Datta’, ‘Oed und Leer Das Meer’, ‘Phlebas’) were composed specifically to support the elimination of thought at the end of yoga classes, when practitioners are in savasana. These tracks came out of his experiences DJing for yoga events as one half of ‘The Future Sound of Yoga’, an experience he co-founded in 2010 with a yoga teacher he met in the dance tent at Glastonbury five years earlier.
 
His Future Sound of Yoga DJ Mixes reflect the sound of these events and are used every day by teachers and practitioners across the world. They have been streamed more than 100,000 times since inception, and capture the atmosphere of the gigs which feature vinyasa yoga, cutting-edge electronica and beautifully-lit magical spaces. 
 
His interest in the connection between electronic music and meditation began while travelling in India in 1998, where he witnessed the juxtaposition of yoga and dance music in Goa. It was further developed amidst the energy of the late 90’s London club scene, where he spent time while studying philosophy at Oxford. 
 
After exploring similar scenes in San Francisco and Thailand, he moved to Sydney in 2003 and began experimenting with the production of music after an old school friend happened to show him how to make music on a laptop. Experimentation turned into an obsessive odyssey into the world of frequencies, and ultimately led to the creation of a studio filled with vintage and modern audio gear. 
 
SOLON is currently working on an album that meditates on the loss of reason, ethics and spirit in the modern world. It is inspired by the electronic albums of the early 90s (e.g. Leftism, Dubnobasswithmyheadman, Timeless).

Biography :

It came as quite a shock when The Avener’s Fade Out Lines rocketed to number 1 in the German iTunes charts. It had been a long time indeed since a French artist had achieved that kind of success in Germany, especially with such a startling single. The triumph of Fade Out Lines opened a door onto a unique and yet instantly familiar world. Its irresistible, sophisticated rhythms conjured up a dual image of lovers ending up on the quays of the Seine at daybreak, and of an urban club funk beat.
Since then, the single’s phenomenal success has proved contagious, confirming The Avener’s prime intention: to travel the frontiers between genres, periods and styles; between the music we listen to and the music we dance to; between underground and high-end pop. As The Avener says himself: “Fade Out Lines is hard to define. It’s blues with jazz, folk and funk influences, and electronic instruments. It has feelings, emotion and nostalgia, but a lot of energy, too.”
It perfectly reflects his upcoming album, The Wanderings Of The Avener, a sophisticated electro manifesto in the spirit of St Germain and his Boulevard’s nu-jazz sampling, reconciling the styles of Moby and Wankelmut, King Britt and Cassius...
The ghost producer of many club hits, Tristan became The Avener when he decided to re-embrace the pleasure of music for its own sake, his early love of piano and melodies, his rich, eclectic, multilayered musical culture and deep house – an antidote to the mechanical chill that has crept into electro over the last few years.
Tristan shut himself away in the studio for months. “I began to rework old tracks that went unnoticed at the time, giving them a more modern feel...” He was determined to achieve a perfect balance: a mixture of acoustic and electro combining songwriting science with the intuition of a dance-floor specialist. And while The Avener wrote his own music, The Avener also covered Sixto Rodriguez, John Lee Hooker, Mazzy Star, The Be Good Tanyas, Andy Bey and Adam Cohen in a mosaic of seminal blues, underground folk, nocturnal pop, ironic rock and the work of forgotten artists from the 70s and 80s, exploring secret paths of memory. His sampling of Phoebe Killdeer & the Short Straws’ The Fade Out Line, a foretaste of the album, was quietly uploaded in summer 2013. It steadily gathered momentum by word of mouth in France before going massive in Germany and then all around the world.
The Avener’s delicate, radiant style has been welcomed as a So French Touch of Elegance and acclaimed as the missing link between harmonic emotion and the urge to dance worldwide. Confirmation of this triumph looks certain with the release of his first album, The Wanderings of the Avener, out on January 19, 2015.
