Captivating confidence and quiet sophistication. This is Almond Brown—DJ, producer, remixer, vocalist, consummate professional & wig snatcher. An eclectic mix of sounds, his music is best described as contemporary house with an aggressively distinctly funky resonance. His sets are an exercise in cross genre flexibility and harmony of House, vocal and Disco classics. “I’ve always jumped across genres, even back in Jr. high.  we’d play Cameo “I just want to be” followed by “Jamie’s Crying” Van Halen.  I feel most comfortable being outside of the lines a bit”. 

Born & raised in the PNW, AB  has been djʼing for over 35 years, but considers himself a musician first. He’s equally as comfortable singing, or in the studio writing & producing and has has residencies spanning from the Cuff to Q, while opening for some of the industries most iconic artists.

“As we emerge its vital we create spaces for Black & Brown artists to ensure a legacy of inclusion we can look back on in the next ten years. I’ll always have my hand in the business, and am excited to lend my voice to that effort, and equally excited to partner and offer my creative direction for a new SODO entertainment venue. Out of the darkness, I’m so thankful.

2019 was quite a year for DJing in retrospect, wasn't it?  This was one of my best sets and experiences, it was previously released on @Innerflight Soundcloud.

What's different now?  WAV quality and downloads enabled.  And being one of my best sets and crowd energies it belongs on my Soundcloud too.

On Friday, October 1st, Tropical Events turned 23 in Portland, at our 90th in-person event since October 1998!  

Tropical wants to thank the djs for a really nice progression over the night.  We are excited to release the sets in the order they were played <3

We chose Sheppard to open things up with just the right energy ♡ which you know not everyone does...  You can hear what a great set this was!  

We owe Peter a better set time next time for sure, always feel a little guilty having a really good DJ opening, but we only hire really good DJs so what can we do ?

Sheppard at Tropical 23-Year Portland, OR Oct 1 2021

On Friday, October 1st, Tropical Events turned 23 in Portland, at our 90th in-person event since October 1998!

Second was Mercedes, who was bangin with great energy as expected, and brought the dance floor to quite a frenzy by as early as 11:00.  She's pretty relentless and so fun to dance to!  

We had talked to Mercedes about playing Annand House Cafe in Eugene when it was a thing, but we stopped rt before it could happen, so was lovely to finally have her at Tropical!
