Captivating confidence and quiet sophistication. This is Almond Brown—DJ, producer, remixer, vocalist, consummate professional & wig snatcher. An eclectic mix of sounds, his music is best described as contemporary house with an aggressively distinctly funky resonance. His sets are an exercise in cross genre flexibility and harmony of House, vocal and Disco classics. “I’ve always jumped across genres, even back in Jr. high.  we’d play Cameo “I just want to be” followed by “Jamie’s Crying” Van Halen.  I feel most comfortable being outside of the lines a bit”. 

Born & raised in the PNW, AB  has been djʼing for over 35 years, but considers himself a musician first. He’s equally as comfortable singing, or in the studio writing & producing and has has residencies spanning from the Cuff to Q, while opening for some of the industries most iconic artists.

“As we emerge its vital we create spaces for Black & Brown artists to ensure a legacy of inclusion we can look back on in the next ten years. I’ll always have my hand in the business, and am excited to lend my voice to that effort, and equally excited to partner and offer my creative direction for a new SODO entertainment venue. "Hand or Eye" genres span minimal, housemusic, deep house, and even a micro dose disco house, which is from one of the first records I added to my collection in 1998 - Busta Funk's "Black Sugar"...it still holds its own to this day.

This is the third installment in my series drawn from the William Blake poem, "The Tyger". Namir, my DJ name, means swift cat or tiger, so that is the reason for all the tiger imagery and references. The four mixes derive their name from the first lines of the poem. 

Tyger Tyger, burning bright, 
In the forests of the night; 
What immortal hand or eye, 
Could frame thy fearful symmetry? 

Therefore, the names of the mixes are:

2019 was quite a year for DJing in retrospect, wasn't it?  This was one of my best sets and experiences, it was previously released on @Innerflight Soundcloud.

What's different now?  WAV quality and downloads enabled.  And being one of my best sets and crowd energies it belongs on my Soundcloud too.

Long set for a very long summer ~!! Almost 3 hours of steamy hawt music played almost exclusively at the Monkey Loft for Shameless' Deck'd Out rooftop party and our Friday monthly, the Social.  Thank you to everyone that came to support during such an intense and strenuous time. I hope this and other Shameless' DJ sets will help get you through to the next season of sunshine. On Friday, October 1st, Tropical Events turned 23 in Portland, at our 90th in-person event since October 1998!

Second was Mercedes, who was bangin with great energy as expected, and brought the dance floor to quite a frenzy by as early as 11:00.  She's pretty relentless and so fun to dance to!  

We had talked to Mercedes about playing Annand House Cafe in Eugene when it was a thing, but we stopped rt before it could happen, so was lovely to finally have her at Tropical!

It's August, and we're ready to show you what we've got lined up for these hot summer days — Seasons of Groove by Jude Brown!

If you remember from last year, we released a stellar EP called Sunshine on the New Beginning by TshegoTMM & Vencer Café — two of South Africa's finest up-and-coming producers. That EP featured a remix by Jude Brown, which was a fantastic addition.

We're happy to have Jude back on board with his first original production for Cromarti Records. We believe he's certainly one to watch for his ability to create tasty grooves.

Jude is an artist of unique calibre within the South African deep house scene. His productions and DJ style tend to infuse elements of jazz, funk, garage, and disco. He's known for his versatility — from bouncy grooves to deep, sultry sounds. Whether he's working house floors or disco beach parties, his style always shines through.

To date, his productions have been released on some of the world’s leading labels, including Nervous Records, Salted Music, Papa Records, Sub-Urban, and Moiss Music. On top of that, he also founded his own label, Sandega Records, to create a space for like-minded artists.

To pair with Jude's original, we’ve brought in Jehan from France for remix duties. We’ve had our eye on Jehan for some time and were just waiting for the right track to ask him to collaborate with us. Jude’s track was perfect — and Jehan turned in a version that was exactly what we were expecting for a track titled "Seasons Of Groove".

In addition to his knack for creating deeper, tasteful sounds, Jehan has an exceptional ability to craft grooves with a classic flair — the kind you can’t help but nod your head to, and flare your nose like something funky’s cooking in the kitchen. We think you’ll know exactly what we mean when you hear his version.
