Composers and Schools in Concert (CSIC) is a nationwide organization that supports music education and the creation and performance of contemporary music. Composers & Schools engages high school students in the philosophies, techniques, and skills underlying contemporary music composition through culturally-responsive composer commissions and workshops for youth ensembles.

Kevin Gunia is a composer, pianist, and educator. He strives to create compelling works and performances by studying and reacting to the musical past, particularly the 20th century. He believes in the importance of passing on knowledge and experience to the next generation of musicians.

He has been commissioned to write for ~Nois Saxophone Quartet and the Boulder Altitude Directive. He has also written for the Ivalas Quartet, currently in residence at the Juilliard School. His works have been recognized through the National Association for Music Education, the New Jersey Music Educators Association, and Mason Gross Community Arts. His Second String Quartet won the Graduate Composition Award at the University of Colorado Boulder. He was the recipient of the George Lynn Memorial Award, for which he researched the four piano sonatas of composer George Lynn.

As a pianist, Gunia has performed solo and collaborative programs. He places an emphasis on 20th and 21st century American music. He has been a featured performer at the West Coast Ragtime Festival (Sacramento, CA) and the Historic Sutter Creek Ragtime Festival (Sutter Creek, CA). He plays in a four-hands duo with Michael Chisholm, and a two-piano ensemble with Michael Chisholm and Frederick Hodges called The Pianophiends. He has also performed with The Pacific Coast Ragtime Orchestra.

At the University of Colorado Boulder, Gunia taught the entire aural skills curriculum. He also gave composition lessons to local high schoolers, helping them prepare short works for performance by musicians from the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. Gunia currently assists the composition area at the University of Oregon, with a focus on the Oregon Composers Forum course and concerts.

Gunia is currently a Ph.D. student in Music Composition at the University of Oregon. His primary instructors are Robert Kyr and David Crumb. He graduated with a master's degree from the University of Colorado Boulder, where he studied with Carter Pann and Michael Theodore. He completed undergraduate studies at Rutgers University, where he studied with Charles Fussell, Robert Aldridge, and Scott Ordway.

Hailed as “the ideal collaborator for new music” and praised for his “beautiful tone and technique“ by Brutal New Music Review, saxophonist and new music curator Drew Hosler (he/him/his) is an advocate for contemporary music. Drew has commissioned, premiered, and collaborated on over 150 pieces by award-winning composers such as Andrew Mead, Jamie Leigh Sampson, David Heinick, Matthew Kennedy, and Marilyn Shrude. His upcoming debut solo album, delta waves, features thirteen world premiere recordings of 21st century works for the tenor saxophone funded in part by the EXCEL Enterprise Fund and ArtsEngine. His 2020 self-released EP Hope Will Carry Us COVID-19: Music for Solo Tenor Saxophone features eleven world premiere recordings from composers all over the world. It was featured on WSMR Florida’s Classical Music Station’s Modern Notebook hosted by Tyler Kline.

Drew is an avid performer as a soloist. In 2022, he gave the world premiere of Josh Trentadue’s tenor saxophone concerto, To fly and to fall with conductor Kim Fleming and musicians of The University of Michigan. Additionally, he has performed concerti by Walter Mays and William Albright with the Bowling Green Philharmonia and the BGSU Concert Band under the baton of Alexander Popovici and Bruce Moss respectively. He has also performed a variety of music for solo saxophone at the New Music Gathering, University of Kansas New Music Guild, 15-Minutes-of-Fame, New Music Mosaic, Boston New Music Initiative, as well as various North American Saxophone Alliance Conferences. He was awarded prize at the 2022 Vivaldi International Music Competition, the 2021 Charleston International Music Competition’s Contemporary Music Competition, the 2022 London Classical Music Competition, and the 51st Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Competition in Music Performance in 2017. Drew has also performed with ensembles such as the Saginaw Eddy Concert Band and the Lima Symphony Orchestra.

Drew is a founding member, saxophonist, and artistic director for the new music ensemble, The _____ Experiment. To date, the ensemble has worked with composers to premiere over 30 works for various mixed chamber instrumentations. In March 2020, The _____ Experiment released their debut album, Conversations, which includes seven world premiere recordings from five different composers which was funded partially by the Running Start Competition through Michigan State University. They were the guest ensemble for Praecepta’s New Music Mini-Fest at BGSU’s College of Musical Arts where they performed 10 pieces including 7 world premieres by BGSU graduate students and alumni. The ensemble has performed across the country, including the Michigan State University College of Music, SUNY Potsdam Crane School of Music, the Flint Institute of Music, and Narloch Piano Studio in Chicago. In addition, the ensemble was awarded multiple prizes through the Charleston International Music Competition’s 2021 Contemporary Music Competition. This includes first prize for their performance of Jasper Sussman’s …nice box! “Oh So Square“ for tenor saxophone and harp. Upcoming engagements include performances with New Music Chicago and the University of Florida. In addition, Drew currently serves as the Assistant Managing Director for the Cleveland Uncommon Sound Project. 

Drew holds a Master of Music in Saxophone Performance, a Master of Music in Chamber Music, and a Certificate in Arts Entrepreneurship & Leadership from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance. He also holds a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance from Bowling Green State University College of Music Arts. Prior to that, he studied at the Flint Institute of Music. His primary instructors have been Timothy McAllister, John Sampen, and Jeffrey Price.

She/They. I’m a milwaukee based violist, violinist, composer and music historian. 

I write music primarily for video games and podcasts and perform freelance for a variety of gigs.

I am a composer that is classically trained with broad interest and experience in world musics. MM New England Conservatory '86, BM University of Massachusetts at Amherst '76.

My compositions have won awards from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, New England Reed Trio International Chamber Music Composition Competition, a Bryant Fellowship from Harvard University, and a certificate from the 21st Century Music Project Competition of the the International Center for Japanese Culture in Yokohama, Japan. My works have been performed across the United States, Europe and Japan.

Michael Hall has performed and taught across Europe, Asia and the United States. Described by the New Music Connoisseur as “utterly masterful,” and Chamber Music Today as having “superb technique,” he recently made his Chicago Orchestra Hall solo debut and concluded a recital tour to Vienna, Austria and Udine and Tolmezzo, Italy. Hall has been a featured performer at the Thailand International Composition Festival in Bangkok, the Positano Chamber Music Festival in Italy, the Vianden International Chamber Music Festival in Luxembourg and the Composer’s Concordance Series in New York City. 

Twice he has presented world premieres at International Viola Congresses at Minneapolis and Reykjavik, Iceland, performed at the 2014 Primrose International Festival in Los Angeles, and presented to critical acclaim the North American premiere of Chen Yi’s, Xian Shi, the first viola concerto written by a Chinese composer, with the Chicago Composers Orchestra, and earlier with the Chiang Mai Philharmonic in Thailand. 

Upcoming performances include the inaugural Ear Taxi Festival in Chicago, 2016 New Music Gathering, Bandung String Festival in Indonesia, Northwest Symphony, 2016 UMKC Summer Composition Workshop, 2016 Thailand Int. Composition Festival in Bangkok. 

Additional works written for Hall by renowned composers include Jim Mobberley, Mara Gibson, Narong Prangcharoen, Eric Moe, Mary Kouyoumdjian, Adam Greene, Matthew Burtner, Marta Ptaszynska, Yu Pengfei, Christian Ellenwood, Seth Boustead, Michelle McQuade Dewhirst, Eric Malmquist and David Kirtley. 

Composers currently writing for Michael Hall include Katherine Bergman, Amy Williams, Rob Deemer and Ilya Levinson. 

Michael loves hiking in the Grand Tetons and Wind River Ranges, chocolate ice cream, great literature, collaborating with friends and working with students in outreach settings in underfunded schools on Chicago's South Side.
