Before summer is a song from our youth, when love was as bittersweet as a midsummer’s night. It is a youthful pondering on the conditions of love and life – and how at a young age it all seems to call for an intensity as burning as the summer’s sun. All to the accompaniment of those endless summer nights when we were drinking and dancing our young and worried souls away.

The Early Fears is the debut album of nomadic one-man band Nervous City Nervous Self and it contains a broad collection of songs portraying a journey from youth to adulthood. The artist takes a firm grip by the listener´s ear and leads us through the bliss and gloom of a wandering singer´s delightful doom. We meet the struggle for recognition and the quest for purpose, the delusions of failure and the sense of betrayal, the loneliness and the longing for something unknown, paired with a spiritual thirst and a hunger for home. All elements – or fears – that seem to be the predicaments for this or any kind of life. But also, and hopefully foremost, we get to glimpse at an almost magical sense of wonder, fulfilment, and even joyfulness. And at the end of the day – or album – a thankfulness for being alive arises, along with a flourishing wish to do something worthwile and beautiful out of it.

This song blends the intricate fingerstyle of classical guitar, inspired by Bach’s BWV 996, with the ethereal and melancholic warmth of Sufjan Stevens’ “Mystery of Love.” The melody flows gently, weaving an introspective and poetic narrative of love and longing, set against a serene, golden-hued landscape. Un souffle d’âme un hommage à Nicole Croisille
En fouillant dans mes archives studio, je suis retombé sur une vieille maquette, restée discrète, presque oubliée, qui date de 1984. 
En la réécoutant, une évidence s’est imposée : ce souffle musical portait déjà en lui quelque chose de fragile, lumineux, intemporel.
De cette archive est né cet hommage à Nicole Croisille, une artiste dont la voix a toujours su faire vibrer l’indicible.
Pour moi ce morceau s’est imposé naturellement comme un hommage. Parce que sa voix, dans sa justesse et sa profondeur, savait toucher ce que les mots n’arrivent pas toujours à dire. 
Parce qu’elle a chanté l’émotion sans artifice, avec sincérité.
“Un souffle d’âme” est une chanson simple, mais habitée. Elle parle de cette présence invisible qui reste, même quand le silence s’installe. 
Elle est devenue, avec le recul, une manière discrète de lui dire merci.

Ein Lied für die, die nicht mehr schweigen wollen.
Für die, die ihre Stimme wiederfinden – in einer Welt, die oft nur zuhört, wenn man schreit.
Aber dieses Lied schreit nicht. Es flüstert. Es zittert. Es sagt es trotzdem.

Ich habe es am zweiten Tag nach meiner Operation aufgenommen – noch schwach, aber ganz da.
Es war mir wichtig, es genau jetzt zu sagen. Nicht später. Nicht wenn alles perfekt ist.
