I love how the LFOs create sounds close to those of missing parts on an old tape.

Tape with no Tape

Made with my modular synthesizer.  Maths as a noise source going into rings which is going through a delay.  The Synthesis Technology E352 is in the background for most of it slowly fading in over time.  I recently added a fuzz pedal to the setup and this was the first patch from experimenting that I liked enough to upload.  Thanks for listening.

Demo of the Ensemble Oscillator, the picture shows the settings used, modulated by random voltages from an E 102 and Turing Machine, going through a Z DSP with the wonderful SSSR Labs card in the second bbd mode.

Demo 01

This is a very brief demo of the Risset Harmonic Oscillator instrument I made for the Qu-Bit Nebulae v2 synthesizer module to give some idea of what it sounds like. Recorded direct, no effects.

Guide (the timings may not be exact, bt they should be in a right ballpark):

0:00-0.12: Fade in using amplitude control; triangle wave, minimum offset (full CCW)

0:13-0:36: Offset at about 35%, more arpeggio effect

0:37-1:17: Increasing the offset, eventually to max (full CW), then back to 35%

1:18-1:49: Start morphing through the waveforms, full CCW to full CW

1:50-2:04: Stay on Fibonacci wave (full CW) for a bit

2:05-2:28: Moving CCW, stopping very briefly at each waveform (approximately), ending up at triangle and staying there

2:29-2:40 : Start panning , going up to about 30%

2:41-3:16 Increase panning speed in increments, eventually reaching max (full CW)

3:17-end: Back to about 305 panning speed, then fade out using amplitude control

DEMO: Risset Harmonic Oscillator (Nebulae instrument)

During the 2020 Santa Cruz County Lighting Complex wildfire, I was forced to flee my home with my wife and children. Sitting up late at night at a friends house, I obsessively read the news, scoured social media for clues as to the fate of my home, and eventually took to listening to the scanner feed of the first respondents dealing with the fire, or trying to evacuate people. The feed is mostly a droning hum punctuated with cryptic voices calling out numbers and addresses. This track was made on a modular synthesizer actively processing the live feed of the scanner.

Using the Lyra-8 synthesizer through a Hyperion E-520 effects processor with reverb from an Expert Sleepers Disting EX, and recorded on an Expert Sleepers Disting Mk4
