I know how it feels to be betrayed
To have your future torn away
I used to have some faith in people
To tell apart what's news and what's fiction
They couldn't really think that this is real?
A crank on the TV saying
Here's the ones to blame
When things don't go your way
When they're the ones we should be trying to save

BUT YOU WENT AND MADE IT REAL

It caught me by surprise
I try to recognise how we ended up with all this trouble
I guess I stayed away from what the awful papers say
I stayed inside my bubble
And if I saw a post I didn't like, I didn't say
When it's so easy to unfollow
I couldn't overhear the echo chambers of my neighbours
Perhaps I could have helped them with their struggle though

But now I see the human race is falling into retrograde

We're gonna need a better way
The system's had its day

The fear we have to face
