Oliwa is producer/DJ Oliver Newell.  After wandering out of the LA psych-rock music scene to the idyllic mountain village of Ojai, he found himself exploring his own genre of deep house music, gently approaching the techno pathocracy from a nurturing place of love and earnest creativity. Endowed with a rich musical performance and composition background, a fascination with the future, and the earthen sensibility of the California coast and its denizens, Oliwa’s unique world of electronic music explores subtle and fantastical landscapes as he weaves together meditative textures with complex rhythms from an array of influences.  Twangy and skanky, funky and spacious, elaborate and deep; he strives to inspire dance floors through transcendent epiphanies and emotional release.

Slow Machete is a collaboration that came to life as Pittsburgh native Joseph Shaffer was recording Haitian choirs in 2009 and found himself with dozens of practice recordings and outtakes. These outtakes would be woven with downtempo and Cuban rhythms into what eventually became the debut LP Evening Dust Choir as well as the new EP Mango Tree.

GOD I LOVE MUSIC. thank god i am so often surrounded by such talented and beutifull people, who give there focus and love to pull together an expression here and there. My crib has become a part time refuge for makin beats, chillin hard, giving thanks, and remembering the golden rule' these songs are the feelings of different people chillin at different times, usually created within a few hours while the moment was full. after awhile there have become so many songs, i am so honored to share them and hang with these cats, life is good and We got this.

I am not entirely sure how Austin came to be known as 'the live music capitol of the world', but as a young musician growing up in a redneck Texas suburb, I got here as quickly as I could.  I play a handful of instruments and I love to record and create music, however singing has never been my area of expertise.  Fortunately for me, Austin has no shortage of amazingly talented vocalists.  Here, I present to you, a few of my collaborations with those amazing individuals.
