Michael Joyner's The Pickins Are Slim album is an eclectic mix of soulful R&B jams accompanied by a sizzling horn section; sweet acoustic folk ballads and a touch of early 90s grunge rock. Michael got his start in the early 2000s writing song with then- wife Valerie June in their Band Bella Sun. After the band dismantled is 2005, Michael continued writing songs and singing while perfecting his own  recording and production talents, He's been the go to man for many late night recording sessions for a huge variety of Memphis musicians. Michael released Sit and Wait in 2008. The EP was an honest introduction to his warm soulful voice and tight guitar perfromances.

Memphis based singer/songwriter, Michael Joyner is a mix of Stax Soul jams and 60's folk ballads. Originally from Jackson Tn, Joyner moved to Memphis in 2000 and started playing the open mics scene and gigging with a reggae cover band. A year later he started writing music and playing guitar in his first serious band Bella Sun. Bella Sun toured and released one album before dismantling in the fall of 2005. During that time Joyner also worked on a side project with Neo-souler Valenica Robinson, writing the music,and recording and producing a 5 Ep called Soul Searching. After the release of the album Michael began to concentrate more on his solo career, while still producing and recording for many Memphis artist friends. He released an Ep in 2008 called Sit and Wait, an earnest introduction to his own singer/songwriting growth at the time. The Pickin's Are Slim is his first full length LP.
