Improvisation has been at the center of my music making ever since I sat down at the piano as a small child and "told stories" before I could even read a single note. Over the years it's taken different forms on different instruments, and recently I have turned to the synthesizer. Every Wednesday night I show up to the studio and experiment while the tape rolls. This EP is comprised of four of the best tracks from these sessions so far.

Michael Lawrence is a keyboardist and composer based in San Diego. An avid practitioner of improvisation, he works in electronic, experimental, and classical styles. His recent single, Nocturne, was included on Syntheclectico, aired on WHYR in Baton Rouge, LA. The title track of his synth EP, Into the Darkness, was featured on WXPN's Star's End Radio hosted by Chuck Van Zyl. In 2018 he represented Philadelphia for 60 Minute Cities, a project with Bivouac Recording of Shanghai, China featuring field recording albums from around the world. For eleven years he was also an assistant grand court organist on the Wanamaker Organ, one of the world’s most famous musical instruments.
