Cette playlist sera un peu spéciale car c'est la première de 2014 et que les bonnes résolutions boostent toujours nos envies d'en faire plus. Quand bien même je ne considère pas cette page comme prônant l'univers électronique, il est clair que 9/10ème de celle-ci tourne autours de ce qui représente le plus Berlin : sa créativité et son fort patrimoine musicale gravitant autour du monde underground. Cette ville inspire et il est dur de rester objectif car il est bon d'être un peu égoïste parfois. MAIS ce que je vous propose est entièrement pour vous faire plaisir et vous faire découvrir quelques petites choses. Tous mes voeux pour cette année 2014 qui s'annonce démentielle musicalement parlant.

Et la playlist commence par un nouveau titre de Moderat diffusé par le groupe que depuis seulement hier, j'en parle ici. S'en suit une découverte toute récente au nom de Midas 104 & Joshua Jesse. Une collaboration 100% berlinoise qui a sorti un très bon Ep il y a quelques jours, signé chez Dantze (Nu, Dirty Doering, Sascha Braemer). Une bonne Deep-House bombant le torse. 

Quelques remixes présents ici comme celui de Tiger & Woods pour Better In The Dark de Say Lou Lou ou encore celui de Chromeo pour le titre What You Want de Boys Noize. A noter que ce titre sortira officiellement dans l'album Out Of The Black remixé de Boys Noize le 3 février prochain. Album qui accueillera que des remixes d'artistes taillés à la hache ( The Chemical Brothers, Housemeister, Justice, Oliver, Blood Diamonds).

Passage obligatoire pour Flume et Chet Faker avec le titre This Song Is Not About A Girl qui ont balancé leur Ep Lockjaw en novembre dernier. Parfaite harmonie entre deux genres pourtant bien différents.

Pour terminer en douceur, une découverte venant tout droit d'Australie, Vancouver Sleep Clinic. Son genre est facilement définissable, entre sa voix qui s'apparente à celle de Bon Iver et sa musique à celle de James Blake et Fleet Foxes (acoustiquement parlant), on ne peut qu'apprécier la finesse de sa musique. Très peu de sorties disponibles pour le moment. Vapour est son second titre, a absolument écouter !

t's been a while since we've seen Henry Smithson aka Riton appear on Ed Banger Records. His work with Carte Blanche solidified him as one of the scene's shining lights and although it's been a long time coming, Riton returns to Pedro's world-renowned imprint.

We are lucky enough to premiere one of the tracks straight from the EP and fans of that classic Ed Banger sound will be jumping for joy. 'Aloha Surfers' starts off with erratic crashes and rolls while a bassline rumbles underneath. A little over 50 seconds in and the drop arrives, we'll let you know hear for yourselves what that's like. Check it.

Hercules & Love Affair’s new album ‘The Feast Of The Broken Heart’ (released 26th May / pre-order here georiot.co/3mv7) sees another musical reinvention from ringmaster Andy Butler - delivered by an impeccable new line up.

The ever-revolving collective led house music’s resurgence with club anthem ‘Blind’ in 2008 (Pitchfork’s record of the year), and 2014’s line up is another roll call of exceptionally talented vocalists. Brits nominee John Grant’s ability for translating hardship into elegance is writ large on ‘I Try To Talk To You’ and ‘Liberty’; Rouge Mary, whose deep, spiritual voice is hewn from a gospel education; Belgian singer Gustaph whose counter tenor takes lead on the single ‘Do You Feel The Same?’ and smoky voiced virtuoso Krystle Warren, who was introduced to Butler by Grant, and sings the provocative ‘My Offence’.

Andy Butler comments: “I wanted nasty basslines, stormy, bleary-eyed sounds, fiery, rough, tough and ragged old school house productions that sounded almost techno. I didn’t want polite, I wanted aggressive.”

This aesthetic coupled with tales of emotional triumph makes for something tough yet soulful. Meaningful house music that IS pop music and can speak to the most musically adroit of tastes.
