this mix is the second of eight that have been used in a clinical setting by SABI Mind for over three years now. it has also been used by close friends and myself, many times over too ..over and over, as it was carefully designed for repeat use. to entrain to. to reach for as a reliable tool. for the purposes of meditation, clearing, unwinding, calming, relaxing, deepening, inner explorations & journeys, grounding, centering, focusing, resting, drifting, quieting, sleeping, transforming, transporting, healing and other related purposes.

it stands on it's own as a contemporary ambient mix and also fully functions in the sound wellness realms. it keeps the promise of holding space for the listener the entire time, without any blips or trips or artful overly expressive side-quests, just slowly and reliably modulating and evolving and unfolding.

it's called 'moving SHADOW' it digs a bit deeper into engaging with, and ultimately separating and clearing, shadow elements. it's not super heavy or intense in this way, it's somewhat subtle and the mix also still retains it's primary universal purpose of use - it's just one notch or two towards this specific goal (compared to the first mix).  many thanks and acknowledgements to the absolutely perfectly executed music made by all the artist's in the mix - a decent handful of them being local as well.

ASIP is the acronym and DJ name of Ryan Griffin, founder of the A Strangely Isolated Place label and the 9128.live collective listening radio station. Founded in 2008 as a blog, A Strangely Isolated Place has now come to be described as a record label for ‘Ambient adjacent' music and this ethos can be heard as a source of inspiration within many of ASIP’s DJ sets. A Strangely Isolated Place also plays host to the long running isolated mix series, with DJ’ing being a primary source of driving creativity and inspiration for ASIP.

Often choosing to focus on strict concepts that highlight various angles of the music he enjoys, ASIP has gone so far as to reinterpret the KLF's Chill Out, cut-up classic Trance Loops, and depict the three stages of sleeping within his previous mixes online. However, ASIP live DJ sets are often more free-flowing; traversing many styles, and focus on the attentive side of Ambient music: lean-in, emphasizing narrative, versus the background music you come to expect with Ambient. 

Founded in the UK, but since relocating to the USA in 2013, ASIP and the label HQ can now be found hiding in Los Angeles.

Untouched is the first single from Aquamarine, the upcoming debut album by @Souns-3 , an ambient project by the well recognized Vancouver-based producer and dj Michael Red | @michaelred. With Souns, Red explores themes that are reflective of the natural world, the unseen world, outer space, and transcendence. Performances are largely intuitive and improvised, sometimes guided. The audio is an immersive world of deep sonic output, lucid introspection, and seemingly endless layers of sound. Typically there are no "drums" in Souns material, though there might be a detectable pulse. As heard on the first album track “Untouched," Aquamarine leaves an unmistakable mark on the listener, reverberating in the mind long after listening. The new album is out December 8th on Subtempo Records.

Greg's Mellow Trip

The EP opens with a remaster of the original tune. Massive frequencies interspaced with moments of silence that delineate the vastness of the sounds used, evoking the distance between celestial bodies in outer space. In Souns’ own words: 'Sun Inside The Sun' imagines a world within the sun that has its own sun and full landscape and environment, and how that inner-world might not necessarily be hot or share the same characteristics as the sun’s surface, similar to how the eye of a tornado is actually calm and peaceful. Imagining an opposite or somehow mirrored world. What the sun is to us on earth, and what might be the equivalent from the sun’s perspective? The main sound in the song I see as mimicking the massive power of the sun, a force and scale that we can’t actually fathom, pushing against a threshold. While creating the work I probably imagined the negative space in the track representing the opposite nature of the sun’s sun, the opposite of great power and full presence, like a negative image.

Heralding on relationships that have developed over the years, @michaelred handpicked @synkro, @loscil and @phaeleh to remix his ambient material that he composes under the @souns-3 alias. Michael has shared the studio, or the stage with all three of them in multiple occasions, making this collaboration a natural continuation of their work together.

‘Souns - Sun Inside The Sun (The Remixes)’ is a collection of 4 unique reworks of Souns’ original song ‘Sun Inside The Sun’ taken from the Aquamarine album released on Subtempo on December 2017.
