Secret Weapon - (Super Gravity EP)

Elements is a tribute to alchemy, the transformation of matter. I always believed that sampling has the potential to transform a dusty, forgotten moment into a vibrant landscape of fantastic impossibilities. Music has an alchemic property, transforming silence into song, nothing into something. I chose Fire, Air, Water, and Earth, the four basic element of alchemy, as seeds for these songs. 
The first, Slivers of Light, represents fire, the sun, and the light given by both. Your Ghost, a song dedicated to the memory of my father Tadeusz Menert, signifies the element of air, and the unseen spirits therein. Eventide's two parts embody the duality of water: Part 1 is the turbulent high tide, water's destructive powers, crashing along the shores into Part 2, which sweeps through the lifegiving and cleansing properties, a low tide of sorts. The album closes with Quiet Earth, a song for my mother, Jolanta, as well as the earth that we chisel away at as a species. This song begins with the noise of humanity, with a lone voice cry out "Do you see, just what you mean to me" until the commotion calms, signifying the end of us, a finality, a quiet earth. 
I hope you enjoy what I consider my favorite work so far, remastered and released as a whole, digitally, for the first time ever.

The album is a mastered recording of the band’s performance at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO on April 21st, 2018. The ‘Live at Red Rocks’ set contains three unreleased tracks, treating listeners to their live versions before the studio recordings are officially released. The album starts with the trio taking the stage with fan favorites “Deluxe” and “Pablito” before diving into a 3-part metamorphosis “Caterpillar” > “Chrysalis” (unreleased) > “Night Moth” (unreleased). Additional surprises in the set include a SunSquabi extended band featuring additional instrumentation from Nicholas Gerlach (Saxophone), Will Trask (percussion), Eric Luba (keys), Leah Druzinsky (vocals) and Darryl Abrahamson (Trumpet) on the tracks “Cinnamon”, “Just A Little”, and “Pygmy Up”.

SunSquabi will be releasing “Chrysalis” and “Night Moth” this summer leading up to a full EP in Fall 2018. Keep an eye out for the new music and catch them at festivals all over the country this Summer.

‘Mind Vacation’ was crafted in northern South America over the past year after Styles initially left what was familiar in America to pursue a more open and conscious experience in the southern hemisphere, away from the everyday grind of life that so many of us are familiar with. Intending to stay for only a period of months, COVID-19 and the current
climate of the United States has seen Styles make a more permanent home in South America. This album is a reflection of the experiences, memories, and frame-of-mind garnered throughout.

As heard in the voiceover of the opening title track of the album, Mind Vacation (featuring Philos label-mate Derlee)perfectly frames the careful and intentional message behind the album:

"The stress of the streets can hold you down, you know? In this concrete jungle, you need to find a little time for meditation. So quiet your mind, and open your heart, and find your true self. Anchor Bay, California based electronic music artist and producer Michal Menert draws breath from the world that surrounds him, transmuting daily inspiration into music that is singularly his own.

A youth steeped in a broad swath of both Eastern and Western musical traditions gives Menert a deep palate from which to draw; his passion for original analog sounds coupled with a vast knowledge of music history has given him a unique ability to pull from the global creative canon with ease. A multi-instrumentalist, he incorporates live guitar and keys into his final production for a full sound and rich feel. 

As Menert co-produced the chart topping Pretty Lights album Taking Up Your Precious Time it was natural that he was the first artist to join Pretty Lights Music. His debut solo album Dreaming of a Bigger Life was released in 2010, followed by 2012’s mega-LP Even If It Isn’t Right. In winter of 2015 Menert released the highly anticipated Space Jazz, followed by fall 2015’s debut release by his band Michal Menert & the Pretty Fantastics, 1. His next release is expected in winter 2018.

In the live realm, Menert supplied sound design for Dead & Co tours in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, he supplied sound design on Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum rerelease in Fall 2016. Building on that relationship, Menert in both a featured performer and co-producer on Hart’s next studio record, slated for release in the fall of 2017.

Menert’s reputation as a live performer continues to grow, as he brings his music to fans nationwide via both his septet, Michal Menert & The Pretty Fantastics, and his 22-piece all-star ensemble the Michal Menert Big Band. His collaborations have led to the formation of myriad ongoing side projects including Manic Menert (with Manic Focus), Half Color (with Paul Basic) & Club Scouts (with Mux Mool). Over the years Menert has shared the stage with a number of musical luminaries including STS9, Bassnectar, Umphrey’s McGee, and more, and played legendary venues including the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, The Gorge in Washington and the Red Rocks Amphitheatre (twice in 2016 alone.)

Committed to a community driven approach to collaborative creativity, Menert works hand in hand with producers he chooses for his own record label, Super Best Records. A dynamic and ideological producer, collaborating and working closely with a new generation of hip-hop & EDM producers, Menert is dedicated to bringing a new musical vision to life free from limitation.
