Ceaselessly pushing the boundaries between proper enslaving music for the mind and straight out incendiary floor dynamics bound to wreak havoc down the basement, Dutch production unit Artefakt counts as one of the country’s finest exponents of that sleek, hypnotic school of techno. Having carved out their niche as stalwarts of seminal Amsterdam-based imprint Delsin, the pair keep on dishing out their enveloping blends of silken analogue rhythms and elegant 4x4 digressions into a dreamy unknown, which the present RYC mix makes a perfect showcase of. A trance-inducing journey away from real-life hustle and across lushly-textured jungles of sound, where the martial pulse of 909s, squelchy acid tropes and magnetic deep tech elevation coalesce into a volatile mix of escapist endeavour and big-room punch from hell. The ARP2600, renowned for its iconic sound and versatile modulation capabilities, would likely serve as a central element in crafting the hypnotic, swirling textures characteristic of psy trance. Its oscillators, filters, and envelope generators could generate the pulsating basslines, intricate lead melodies, and evolving soundscapes synonymous with the genre.

The Octatrack, a powerful sampler and sequencer, would provide extensive control over samples and loops, allowing for intricate rhythmic patterns, glitch effects, and sample manipulation to further enhance the psychedelic atmosphere of the track.

The Shared System modular synthesizer, with its collection of modules designed for experimental sound design, would offer endless possibilities for shaping and sculpting sounds, adding layers of complexity and depth to the composition. Modules such as oscillators, filters, envelopes, and effects could be creatively patched and modulated to create evolving, otherworldly timbres and textures.

The RD9 drum machine would provide the driving, pulsating rhythm foundation essential to psy trance, with its analog drum sounds adding warmth, punch, and groove to the track. Its sequencer would allow for precise control over drum patterns, with the ability to program intricate rhythms and variations to keep the energy flowing throughout the composition.

JakoJako’s unmissable live performance has fed directly into the new EP - all four tracks originated in her live show - giving the EP a propulsive urgency imbued with her distinct take, described by RA as “fragile techno written in the key of wonder”.

Michele, cloudsurfer, is an electronic music artist specializing in Techno, Deep, Experimental, and Ambient genres. Based in Rome, he’s the founder of Psyco Records. His music made by Eurorack and Buchla systems, is a direct extension of his electronic circuits. He performs live analog shows without post-production, creating each album as a direct cut from these performances.
