Siphiwe Sip is a songwriter, vocalist, actor, and musician born in Bergville (Emoyeni), KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa. He has made himself a name as a performing artist, praise singer, voice artist, music composer/producer and a vocal coach. Sip has always striven for a better version of himself through various workshops activities; drama, music, creative writing and dance movements. In 2001, his career took off when he landed various roles in a musical (Umoja) – “The Spirit of Togetherness”, which toured the world. In 2009, his song writing and singing skill was put to practice through working in a studio as a session vocalist and music library administrator. He has composed and written for young and upcoming DJs, gospel groups and for television productions through a company called Slam production. Sip continued to raise the bar as his music works started being featured on several television productions since 2010; on Mzansi Magic channels, SABC, ETV, Moja Love, and Mnet programs. His music has been featured on My brother’s keepers, uZalo, The queen, Isibaya, Isencane, iHostela, The sing off and on a local movie called Between friends to name a few. As the above was happening, Sip was also bagging some screen role as an actor; Bonga Themba on Empini showmax, Magistrate Mthimkhulu on the Youngins, Mr X on Diep City, Dr Sono on Generations the legacy, senior officer on Isibaya and Fezekile on Ashes to Ashes S2 to name a few. His theatre performance cap is also quite dominant on local and international stages because his skill was received by several other productions; 1789, The Head And The Load, Sibyl, Hlakanyana, Let the right one in, King Kong, Exit Exist, Cion, Music in the air, Kwela bafana and iLembe to mention but a few.
In 2012 Sip, worked an Indian music producer Simaab Sen in recording a movie sound track for a Bollywood film called “Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola”. In 2013, some of his music work was released on iTunes and Spotify through Slam production; Songs from KwaZulu – where Sip used Nxele which is one of his nicknames back home instead of Siphiwe Sip. When Sip was in London for a Dance Umbrella 2016, he got an opportunity to record backing vocals with and for an international artist “Omar Puente Fiffe” from Cuba. Sip is now an official composer of music and sound scape for two (2) companies; Rhythm World of Duma Ndlovu and Mama Dance music library co- produced with Lungelo Moti and Andy Innes. Sip is working with William Kentridge since 2019 on “Waiting for the Sibyl”, “The moment has gone and the head and the load” as a vocalist. He has recently recorded a voice character for a film called “Amashinga” where he led Zulu chants, helped with Zulu grammar, dialogue, and language coach. Sip has recorded isiZulu and English radio ads for a few companies; Baked Word, Creatrix and Blue Moon.
Sip’s commercial sounds started being featured on our local radio stations in 2020 when dropped his debut single Leyongoma – that song, Isililo ngeSilo (Single) in 2021, Amaphupho – Dreams (EP) in 2022, Bayethe (EP) in 2023, Sasoneni (Album) in 2024 and television & film , music Zulu Acappella and Strings (Album), Sneaky Catwalk (Album) and Minimal Tension (Album).
