Song for Brigid is a celebration of Brigid, a powerfully compassionate matriarchal leader who stood for fairness and justice for all. Song for Brigid heralds her feast day 1st Feb and the coming of spring, and celebrates us moving from darkness into light: 
“Our prayers we raise to Brigid, woman of the earth, the winter it is leaving us, and the land is giving birth”. 
           Acclaimed Connemara Sean Nós Singer Sarah Ghriallais collaborates adding some beautiful Gaeilge on the song.
           This recording is a new version of the Song which was originally released in 2021. Brigid is a towering figure in Irish history. I wanted to capture that spirit of the Gael in the song and felt the song was yearning for feminine energy. Therefore I invited acclaimed Connemara Sean Nós Singer Sarah Griallais to collaborate in the song. Sarah contributed by reading the spoken word part of the song in the Irish language.
          Sarah's unique and celebrated singing style draws from the deep well of the Gaelic tradition and way of life, which added new layers of depth and meaning to the song.”

This song is about Homeless Children. It was written for a friend of mine who went to India to volunteer with the Hope Foundation who do great work with the Homeless in Calcutta, India. I spent some time in Calcutta which is where some of the inspiration for the song came from.

This song is about the current state of homelessness in Ireland in 2017 and the insecurity, uncertainty and sheer vulnerability that homelessness brings. There are over 8000 people homeless in Ireland today, 3000 of them children. Much homelessness is hidden away in temporary bed and breakfast accommodations, but this is no way for our children to be brought up. Rather than curse the darkness, lets start lighting candles

The Gift of Life

I dedicate this to my beautiful sister Gemma who died 7 days before Christmas 4 years ago, and to her wonderful daughter Orla and to all, family and her many many friends who loved Gemma. There is a tradition in Ireland that when a robin visits it is a sign that their relatives are still around and in the spiritual community. I had one such visit from a Robin in a time of difficulty, which inspired this song as did the annual Childrens carol service which Gemma started and is still held in Gemma's name every year in Ballymore Eustace, county Kildare

Mick Brown is a songwriter and musician based in Galway City. He plays banjo and guitar and writes songs whose themes include community, generosity, peace, and nature. He performs his songs at community music events and sessions and in the Galway folk club. In 2016 he perfomed his songs in the songwriting competitions of Cork folk festival, the Fastnet Maritime & Folk festival and the Sean McCarthy songwriting festival. He performed one of his songs with a community choir at Galway Choirfactor in March 2017
