Last spotted on Dirtybird brandishing a switch-flipping, warehouse-busting acid house remix of Kill Frenzy’s massive ‘Make That Booty Clap’, ZDS, AKA Nat Self, returns with his very own full EP. Ladies and gentlemen, make way for ‘Hands’. 

Perfecting his dancefloor dynamism for many years on labels such as Made To Play, Sound Pellegrino, Suara, Defected and Dirtybird, ZDS has primed each of these three cuts with nothing but the party in mind. Each one comes with its own story, let’s get handy… 

‘Hands’: A track to bring sunshine and light to the dancefloor, something to lift you. Nat actually made this specifically to mix with VonStroke’s beautiful ‘Can’t Wait’. Claude loved it so much he signed it as the A-side. Nat’s been road-testing it all summer to great effect. In his own words, he “nearly peed his pants at the reaction to it in Kazantip.”

‘Bang Ze Box’:  Ghetto house with a classy polish of timeless house funk, ‘Bang Ze Box’ is undiluted, darkroom audio deviousness. Jesse Rose, Heidi and Eats Everything are already card carrying fans. The minute you hear its infectiously undulating bass groove, you will be too. 

‘Drop’: VonStroke recognised the slinky, sexy bass mischief of this third cut. Deep, penetrative and smothered in sub bass, there’s a subtle sense of euphoria by way of a steadily rising synth line that neatly counters the nagging sea of low end riffage.  Its already been receiving some great early reactions and something tells us there’ll be much more by the time ‘Drop’ gains the momentum it deserves. 

Three superb cuts from one of the UK’s most respected house producers. Usually you’re asked to throw up some hands and show some love. Well this time we’re throwing you some ‘Hands’. Big love.

Your internal locus of evaluation will guide you. Don’t follow trends or get caught up in social media. Dig for music that truly makes you groove. Keep digging. Challenge yourself. Surround yourself with people who inspire you and lift you up. There is always more to learn and more music to discover. 

About the mix: I thoroughly enjoyed collecting music for this one over the last few months. This is my usual approach to mixes, I like to collect and select over a period of time to let the music flow and fall into place naturally. 'Back to the Basics' - I wanted to get back to straight up house in this mix and emit a summery feel as we move into this season. The first half of the mix I aimed to project a softer energy, a slowed down pace to counter the crazy busy period I'm in and to emphasise my love for my biggest and truest influence, 90's house music. There really is an infinite array of music made in this era and it keeps giving more and more as time goes on, I find it fascinating that there is still so much to discover. The first half is filled with lovely juicy finds from my favourite era and labels. The second half of the mix rolls into a more driving energy and shines light on forthcoming music bridging the connection from old to new, something I strive for in my sets, productions and digging. Recorded in my new apartment and on my new setup with an abundance of natural light shining in - the energy is very fresh.

Re-issue of A Thunder Orchestra's 'Shall I Do It?', a haunting yet beautiful slice of hypnotic proto techno from the vaults of the rich eighties Belgian new beat / synth wave / EBM noir scene, written and recorded by Dirk Desaever (aka Danton's Voice & White House White) in 1985 and released on a handful of cassette tapes only. Re-discovered by Walhalla records and included on their 'Underground Wave Volume 4' compilation in 2014, now re-mastered and available on 12'' format for the first time ever. Things started to move when label boss Paul du Lac heard this gem being played by Germany's finest, Mick Wills, in one of his trademark epic dj-sets, with the pounding drums, haunting synths and the eerie kid's voice making him fall in love at the spot. It turned out Mick didn't play the original, but, like so often, his own re-edited version: slightly pitched, extended and re-constructed in an utterly brilliant way, perfectly suiting the darkest hours of the night. Eventually, intrigued as the label was with the song and being a big fan of mr. Will's editing craftsmanship, one thing led to the other, and Bio Rhythm is now proud to officially present the original A Thunder Orchestra's 'Shall I Do It?' in the full glory it deserves, including two reconstructed versions by Mick Wills, one that starts with the intro just like the original and a special beat version for even more convenient dj use. The beauty of darkness... shall we do it?

Mannequin has the dual and parallel aim to unearth hidden or unpublished gems, running along a road that starts from the period of reference for this kind of music (late 70s – mid 80s) and comes to nowdays, with a vision deeply influence by Factory Records / 4AD labels. 

Catching the same spirit of such great labels, we asked to the italian synth wave princess Mushy to create a compilation starting from a tabula rasa. The mission was hard. Following her tastes and heart, she had to select a dozen of new bands from all over the world with unreleased and unique for this project tracks, picking up the title and realizing the graphic design and artwork. The full process of "The End Of Civilization" took almost 1 year but the result was touching us ￼deep into our soul. 

Mushy began her career crafting noise bursts and aggressive oblique instrumentals before, in her newest form, blooming into a beautiful, epic and heart-heavy icy synth sound, having both "Faded Heart" (2011) and "Breathless" (2012) as album of the week at Rough Trade. "The End Of Civilization" perfectly represents her double sided synth-wave / kraut-psychedelic soul. Every track she selected for us is an absolute highlight, moving from the analog minimal / cold wave sounds of Police Des Moeurs, ASSS, The Circa Tapes, TEEEL and Rosemary to the tempestuous post punk and psychedelia of Deathday, The Murder Act, Phosphor and The Strange Forces, ending with spectral cold folk of Tablets and The Long Wives.

On Remix duty, we have the space disco master himself, FM Attack, providing us with that vintage cosmic sound, and really proving that love can be anywhere.

Lazercat &amp; Shawn Mac mix things up providing a deep, melodic sound with a touch of italo-prog to give it that refreshing sunny vibe.

Last but not least, Sare Havlicek &amp; Le Pimp provide us with a retro and upbeat sound, highlighting the original elements and adding a 70s style touch to it to seal the deal.
