Mala was part of the music revolution which came to be known as ‘dubstep'.

DMZ, the label was created and 1 year later a bi-monthly event at Brixton’s Mass began.
Both label and event became pillars of the dubstep scene.
A scene built on dub-plates and vinyl only productions. played on heavyweight sound systems.

16 years later, Mala has decided to re-issue his back catalogue digitally for the 1st time.

All tracks have been re-mastered by the original engineer: Jason @ Transition Mastering, and still sound as heavy, warm & timeless as the initial vinyl only releases.

DEFKON1 is proud to welcome back L0G1N for his second release on the imprint. This time the French producer brings us the third edition of our EXP catalog, 'Sleepwalking'. The weighty 3-tracker is tinged in IDM rhythms and glitched sound design, featuring a remix from Chicon & Darkhurst.

The EP kicks off with 'Parasomnia,' a frantic quarter-time number, driven by a massive pulsating bass line. The track builds slowly, getting more intense and panic inducing as time goes on.

For the second half of the project, L0G1N teams up with pro.bleep on the aptly titled 'Hypnagogia'. The duo flex their sound designs muscles on this deranged journey.

Chicon & Darkhurst took on the remix for 'Hypnagogia,' giving the original a more dancefloor-friendly twist to cap off the project.

A somatic and sonic journey into Red Sprites.
Ecstatic to share my depiction of these through the medium of music
Leading up to the release I asked the question, apart from their general allure as a fascinating, powerful phenomenon, how do I relate with these as beings?

Well when you look at the structure you notice their dendritic electrical formations are not so dissimilar from the formations of the root structures of plants. And in turn, also dissimilar to that of the structure of our own body's neural pathways.
These Sprites fall under the umbrella of a 'Transient, Luminous Event'
I find that we, as humans, as sentient beings, experience transient luminosity all the time.
Whether it be through momentous spikes of inspiration, when we lock into a topic or task, our brains may be lighting up in that same way, that same flashing ionic reaction which causes us to scintillate into excitatory experience.
The nature of transience being subject to whatever stretch of time we compare it to. With this in mind, our very lives as a whole could be considered 'Transient, luminous events'. Where the luminosity projects inward and outward as soon as we animate into this world.

TLDR: above so below etc etc we are the red sprites of the ground level of earth so big up yaself ya mad jesus

"All tracks on this album were written between 2008 and 2013 in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. It was a time of early experimentation with micro-sound and an exploration of different aspects of my musical identity.

«Étude» is an instrumental composition often designed to perfect a particular musical skill. Whilst making these songs I have been discovering and practicing new techniques. Be it mindful glitch-programming, sampling dad’s jazz records, or testing limits of the simplest FL Studio synth 3xOSC. The main goals were pretty much the same every time, to find fresh formulas and unusual patterns for new audio experiences.

Some of the tracks were made before signing to Med School (Searching The Truth, Microfunk, Phantasmagoria). Some were not included in my first three albums for one reason or another (Banana Electro Bebop Jam, I’m Not A Human, Dub Forest, Punk’s Not Dead). Projects for ‘Insight’, ‘Galactic Glider’, ‘Trash Bin Galaxy’ were lost, and so I used the latest found rendered versions here.

Genre-wise this album is quite broad. From ambient and experimental dub to wonky jazzy hip-hop and post dubstep. But, despite the diversity of the material I think it still has a strong identity and tells a complete musical story, from our first minimalist manifesto ‘Microfunk’ and deep leftfield drum & bass rollers, to more experimental twisted and sometimes dark ideas on the B side.
