“The Very First Real Magic” is the aptly named first release of Escape Artist’s new imprint 'PSY SECTION'; coming in the form of a various artists affair, brought together by the power of friendship. After years of being sent amazing music by new and old friends from near and afar, the time has come to share this joy with the rest of the world. 

As a label, they will seek to shine a light on psychedelic music of all designs and the first release will focus on the dance variety. It is the label’s hope that the love and friendship that brought this project together will shine through in the music.

Hex Editor’s transcendental breakbeat dreamscape ‘Tuesday’ opens the B side with expert precision. Soaring pads and swimming arpeggios provide the perfect spot for the listener to land after their flight from the previous side. PSY SECTION's debut record is one well worth checking out as a whole and as always, if you like, make sure you support the artist and label by giving it a buy.

PREMIERE: Hex Editor - Tuesday [PSY SECTION]

Prolific Italian duo Orion and dear friends of the Delayed team are ending the year with a bang, as they release ORN006 on their namesake label, their only solo release of the year.

We’re very happy to feature the A3 track - TWS. This wonderful piece of electro wastes no time, getting straight to the point with its acid line, bouncy percussion and eerie chords, being reminiscent of Aphex Twin with hints of Sega Soundtrack influence.  

In typical Orion style, this release is impressively versatile, starting out with ambient, and navigating through breakbeat and downtempo. The duo’s slow release policy is definitely paying off, as it’s clear that they prioritize quality above quantity, having not released a full solo release since April 2021. As always, we’ll be waiting for their next work, and immensely enjoying this in the meantime.

Orion's "Tenet" EP will be out on their own Orion label on December 15.

Revealed on COD3 QR, Laurent Garnier's label, the French producer Voltaire aims to become a key figure in the renewal of French electronic music with an album in 2025 entitled "Echoes". Ahead of its release "[QR]D.292.VOL1.24" presents 3 of its tracks.

Voltaire doesn't belong to the serail, the preferential circuits of the electro universe: he's an artist who built his career through passion, after electronic music fell into his lap somewhat by chance. Coming from a region far from the preferred circuits of the electro world, he cultivated his predispositions in autarky. Very quickly, the musician took advantage of his training in the audio-visual industry (where he worked as a sound recordist and mixer for cinema, advertising and haute couture) to raise the artistic and technical quality of his productions to a very high level.

Voltaire uses his perfectionist approach to music to create a richly emotional eclecticism, inspired by reminiscences of the historical signatures of electronic music, from the pioneers of Detroit to the glorious electro decades of the 2000s and 2010s. Between nostalgia and the search for new forms of contemporary electro, which must reconcile efficiency and inspiration: "I love all facets of electronic music and I want to remain open to all influences. This approach also allows me to avoid formatting my music".

Today Voltaire is a COD3 QR regular: he has remixed "Tales from the Real World" from Laurent Garnier's latest album, had several vinyl and digital releases and has been in the line-up of several events with the godfather of French techno, with whom a relationship of loyalty and trust has been firmly established. His forthcoming releases complete this first sequence and open up a new one: with his powerful reminiscences of techno, house and electro from 2000 and 2010, Voltaire has established himself as the newcomer to watch on a Frenchy techno in a full renewal. Nascent techno imprint @midgar_records next issuing sees them in retrospective mood with a carefully created remix package for Wata Igarashi's 'Ciphers' release. It pulls together Nuel, Yves De Mey, Oprhx and Shawn O'Sullivan for the vinyl edition, plus r2π - a collaborative project of Retina.it, Ruhig and PRG_M - and Ruff Cherry as additions to the digital version.

Releases by Intergalactic Gary are few and far between. Besides a handful of collaborations such as The Parallax Corporation (with I-F) and with Pasiphae, the must-know DJ from Den Haag has largely been about his talent behind the decks. We are thus extremely honoured to have him break the mould with us for his first solo EP release in 15 years — ’Signs of Disarray’. 

Injecting a fresh spirit amidst today’s mass productions, the sounds will immediately capture vintage ears. The pacing well measured, the storytelling a precious capsule from a time past. In essence, 4-tracks impossible to replicate unless you are the one and only time-bending and time-travelling Intergalactic Gary.

Hop on board the bird trip with title track ‘Signs of Disarray’, a hurtling sonic obstacle course which gives a brief but soul-drenched reprieve. Onward, ‘Invisible Intruder’ chronicles a battle propelled by gun shots and recoils. The B side consists of the tools: ’Nickel from The Bumper’, a liminal ride for that nth hour of your set and ‘Mystified’, a ghostly apparition to surface at highly selected dance floors under the right musical conjurers.

Following from the success of Umwelt’s last mini-LP ‘Superior Life Forms’ on the label, Midnight Shift readies up another release, this time by @paal. Having collaborated with the aforementioned on the earlier Mothership compilation (an allied Midnight Shift x Voitax production), the German producer is now handed the reins for full creative curation over the course of six tracks with features from close pals NGLY and Cressida.

Awash with a palate of dark and broken sounds yet with touches of warmth and humor, 'Soothing Songs For A Cultured Affair', burrows deep into the mind of the Voitax label boss. Lending from a rich musical upbringing, we witness the evolution of breakbeat and electro as seen through the eyes and ears of a producer at one with his machines. Paàl’s penchant for thunderous, rumbling low ends sets the precedent for the EP with glimpses of the artist’s knack for melodies and harmonies.

Following the release of the spacious Six Rooms EP on his own newly-minted Akita Club label, rhythmic master Nico returns to Midnight Shift to fuse the mind and body.

On this latest missive, he crafts a space inhabited by wayward rhythms, urgent percussion and lead lines that feel like they’re about to cave under the pressure of The Groove. From the rain-brain dance of ‘The Driving Rain’ to the mental massage of ‘Elements’, a neat transition straddling both 104 bpm and 155 bpm, complete with directions for …something.

Four explorations of nonplaces in the fourth world. Experiments in rhythm that come close to falling apart, held together by a backbone of bass.
