Shit Control is a St. Petersburg DJ and sound producer with numerous releases on Russian and foreign labels. Rodion started making music in Khabarovsk, his hometown, where he contributed to the development of the local tomtom soundsystem community, being its resident.

After moving to St. Petersburg, the artist managed to make his mark with performances at key venues and parties in the city, and, together with Lesha Shakah, founded the @traxual label, free from genre restrictions.

The new issue of Vestnik Podcast features an explosive mix of EBM, techno and electro, saturated with cold and merciless groove.

@casual_decay is the primary alias for Portland-based Jon Nasrallah. Although originally from Nashville, Jon has laid deep roots in the PNW.

As a facilitator with Portland's nonprofit Synth Library, Jon provides access to an array of hardware synthesizers and shares his skills as an educator with the community by leading workshops on modular synthesis.

Through the alias Casual Decay, Jon explores organically evolving sonic textures inspired by ecological and cellular processes, just as comfortable improvising beneath tress in public parks as they are carefully scoring for film. Although mainly focused on Casual Decay, Jon can also be found conjuring gritty and abrasive new wave and electro inspired music as Thinking Spell, and when DJing rather than live performing, it's DJ Tropical Goth (as you'll hear in this mix).

Each of these identities represents a different facet of an adept musician, whose expressions knows few limits. It's a pleasure to share Jon's work, and catch up with them here.

Returning back to where it all began, Velvet Underground-Dance, Midnight Shift presents an extraordinary line-up of musical and art-bent guests found making all the right waves this moment. Independent art & design practice, studioKALEIDO, has been brought in to share their visual arrest and arresting visions of midnight hallucinations.
Opening the ceremonies of the night is Zouk’s first resident to ever play a first record for the dance floor – respected veteran Jeremy Boon. He will be guiding the night with his light in the space that he helped build.

A local phenomenon that must be-seen-to-be-believed, one-man band, Hafez Masterpiece will be joined for the first time ever with a mystery female guest vocalist for their hotly tipped duet debut. His finger acrobatics on the Kaoss pads paired with her voice of the modern Singaporean soulchild is a transposition of our city’s music.

This edition will also be the unveiling of Midnight Shift label artist and performer Eddie Niguel, whose remix of Patrice Baumel’s ‘Roar’ on Berlin’s Get Physical label became a hit single in the electronic scene, including #1 Juno Best Seller in the Techno Chart. His steady ascent to international waters continues with remixes for synth pop band Evokateur from the UK as well as notable props from the industry’s finest connoisseurs.

Not much shall be revealed at all about the International Mystery Guest. All that will be said is that he is one of the Top 20 Live Acts of 2011 (Resident Advisor) who will be showing his musical prowess with both a Live and DJ set for the night.

For the first time ever, Darker Than Wax, Midnight Shift and Zouk come together for a night on board the nightcraft known as DMZ.

Darker Than Wax – the label brainchild of local duo Funk Bast*rd and Kaye, otherwise known as Cosa Nostra, is a statement on the pervasiveness of black music and its motion into the future. A concentration that took more than 10 years in the making.Beyond wax. Beyond black. Darker Than Wax.

Darker Than Wax is joined by Midnight Shift, Singapore’s first official afterhours party organisation and music record label bringing together emerging and established artists in production and performance on one global stage.

Last but not least, music institution Zouk hosts this night of music brimming beneath the surface, showcasing artists with musical prowess and form as they take you on a journey like no other before.

To guest the inaugural DMZ is Torontonian hero Basic Soul Unit aka Stuart Li, who arrives with his arsenal of gear for a debut live set traversing the dubby, moody and organic spectrum of house and techno. Basic Soul Unit guests as an artist under both the Darker than Wax and Midnight Shift imprints, with original tracks soon to be released on both labels.

Closer to home, resident trooper Jeremy Boon joins label heads Funk Bast*rd and Kaye as they play on with intergalactic funk into the good, good night.

The first of label showcases to be held both in Singapore and abroad, this Saturday 13 April at Velvet Underground-Dance, Zouk will see label artists Eddie Niguel and Deetron anchor the night on both ends, bringing the sound of Midnight Shift to the live dynamics of the dance floor. Zouk’s very own Adrian Wee takes the 1-2am spot, while Kaye from fellow label Darker Than Wax will perform a rare Live set before him using both original and exclusive material for Midnight Shift.
