“The Very First Real Magic” is the aptly named first release of Escape Artist’s new imprint 'PSY SECTION'; coming in the form of a various artists affair, brought together by the power of friendship. After years of being sent amazing music by new and old friends from near and afar, the time has come to share this joy with the rest of the world. 

As a label, they will seek to shine a light on psychedelic music of all designs and the first release will focus on the dance variety. It is the label’s hope that the love and friendship that brought this project together will shine through in the music.

Hex Editor’s transcendental breakbeat dreamscape ‘Tuesday’ opens the B side with expert precision. Soaring pads and swimming arpeggios provide the perfect spot for the listener to land after their flight from the previous side. PSY SECTION's debut record is one well worth checking out as a whole and as always, if you like, make sure you support the artist and label by giving it a buy.

Boris Bunnik returns to the Fluid Electronics label after he delivered a stunning remix for Rob Belleville in 2020. This is his first outing under the Vernon Felicity alias since 2016. Boris - better known for his work as Conforce and Versalife, steps up with four cuts joining the dots between sci-fi-infused scenarios, rapturous synthy vistas and AI-powered club dynamism, bound to have dance floors phasing in a paradox of hi-intensity wares and textures-splattered sonics tailored to maximal effect. 

Breaking the EP in, “Chord Memory” lets out a thunder of raucous machine gargling. Navigating a league of its own, halfway proper muscular EBM and no-frills techno from the deep, this one attacks pedal to the metal with great loads of aggro kicks, rattling snares and monster bass swells surging upon the ravers with ominous presence. Doped on laser blasts and liquid-like vintage keyboardry, “Hindsight” blazes a trail of dusty acidness across, laying it thick with FX-riddled stabs and octave-shifting pads out an oddly distorted VHS score.

Vernon Felicity - Hindsight

Sungate Records joins friends and family with a V.A in support of the victims of the storms in Valencia.

On October 28th, flash floods decimated the better part of the southern and western areas of the Valencia province, alongside many other points of spain. What followed was a catastrophic event resulting in storm surges, collapsing bridges, thousands stuck on roads and streets, ultimately leading to a death toll that is now estimated over 200, and unfortunately, rising.

Homes, animal shelters, businesses, personal property, and ultimately, families, have been destroyed by this catastrophe. an event that caught thousands out in the street, heading to and from school, work, and daily lives unalerted. severe warnings only got to our phones 10 hours after, despite being warned by weather centers and flood prevention institutions for days.

With Sungate’s staff both residing and having ties to the city, we’ve decided to release “Healing Rays”, a V.A with 22 tracks to gather funds to re-distribute to those most in need, buy essential products and help in the re-construction of a damaged region. We are joining a series of charitable releases from others in the city that has seen a wave of supporting press, and more importantly, an overwhelming amount of support.

With “My World” Nesa tells a personal story of influences and inspirations split in 4 parts / tracks. Each of the tracks is in fact named after who matters the most to the artist: her 2 dogs, her life partner and herself. Sonically the EP is a unique blend of music that Nesa loves and its hard to not fall in love with. Opening with an eerie cascade of drone-like textures, it conjures visions of frozen horizons and spectral fjords. The Midnight Shift label debuts with a daring pairing of the emerging and established in The First Shift EP, featuring Singaporean Eddie Niguel with Torontonian Basic Soul Unit aka Stuart Li. Together, they present a crisp and compelling release statement that pushes a new trajectory in the house and techno genres. Get on the Shift.

Torontonian Basic Soul Unit adds his distinctive flavour to the pairing with ‘Black Ice’ and ‘Late Night Shift’. The former is a precipitous icy traipse that bursts into full hailstorm and bloom, while the latter is a dubby afterhours peaktime shuffle paired with sweet melody. Carefully crafted to perfection, these are further winners from the man also known as Stuart Li.

Emerging Singaporean artist Eddie Niguel presents ‘Paths’, a controlled burner that gives out just a teasing hint of its glory underneath. Showing further mettle, his next track ‘Absolute’ is an italo-tinged number set to be a future earworm hit with crossover potential for multiple dancefloor styles.

Eddie Niguel - Paths

A techno shift, Midnight Shift’s third release sees Recondite on his upward trajectory pair up with the relatively reserved Julien H Mulder. Both outputs possess a stripped down aesthetic, but while the former revels in the straight and shiny, the latter brings a touch of lightness and play. A tightly packed, hardworking 4-track EP that will serve the many moods of a DJ well.

Formerly from Bavaria and now based in Berlin, Recondite crafts ‘Borderline’, a track that broods in shimmery afterdark punch, such as with the last bright rays of an inevitably waning sun. ‘Stomper’ does not have to go on too long to make a point. It is a moody, melancholic, almost lovesick trudge topped off with restless hi hats. Accomplished in ambient space music, Julien H Mulder has been producing music since the 90s. To him, simplicity is best. The Stockholm resident’s ‘Won’t Say Nothing’ is a lightly drenched sigh paired with broken beat while ‘Old Rutins’ is a bassline-led kicker soon to run amok in dancefloors. They hint at what is to come with his forthcoming full EP on Midnight Shift.
