Tech Support stands amongst some of the most prolific young DJs and producers out there. Yet despite a vigorous work ethic he still maintains a sense of playfulness in his work, demonstrated by his tongue-in-cheek approach to the DJ lifestyle. We chatted with him over on Instagram about small communities, production tips and musical influences. 

Combining lashings of house euphoria, mind-melting chug, dirty basement disco, obscure italo and more, Tech Support is primed and ready to send you offworld to a strange yet familiar place of feel good. 

And it’s not just dancefloor clientele that have been captured by these far-out frequencies, gaining support from the likes of Mixmag, Rinse FM, Houseum and fellow artists Black Loops, Late Nite Tuff Guy, and Dan Shake on a number of productions and mixes.

Tech Support always finds a groove in everything he touches. Be that through his DJ sets, mixes or his own productions, there's a rhythmic fluidity and depth that always guides his way.

He never confines himself to one sound or style but there's a distinct nod to the 80s in his influences and output; be assured you'll find lashings of Italo, vintage darkwave, euphoric house and slo mo chug when he's behind the decks or laying it down in the studio.

His work rate as a producer has been on the up over the last few years. If he's not sharing his solo work, which has formed releases for Nocturne, Together Alone, Futureboogie, Silver Bear and, most recently Ano Ano, he's crafting his own self-released edits and reworks of legendary new beat, new wave and Italo Disco tracks like 'Burning Down The House', 'Je Suit Passee' and 'Drop The Deal'. Lately he's been making music under another alias, Asa Tate, with a track penned for this year's Rhythm Section SHOUTS compilation.

John “Cyclonix” Wilcox is the original raver, the sort of person who knows the roots of his music inside out. He can craft an electronic music sculpture that echoes both the classic dance sound of the UK (bass heavy, chord based, break sampling and crisp), and the purest Chicago and Detroit house and techno influences. Some of the highlights on his career include releasing on cult labels like Tusk Wax, Smuggler’s Inn, Bristol’s Boogie Café and Phuture Shock Musik or contemporary dance floor soul staple Broadcite among other highly recommended projects.

“Efeito Borboleta” is his take on the Percebes sound and it features three incredible originals and a home-made remix by girl of the moment Sheri Vari.

It kicks off with “Butterfly Effect”: a deep stomper that could well have been released on Underground Quality or Sistrum. It is space and emotion, bubbling with jungle breaks and 909 power, channeled through the medium of deep, touching house music.

“Gift of a Patient Soul” is a slower burner, a crunchy jazzy mid-tempo acid funker - perfect to get that foot tap on. The remix by Sheri Vari flips it into a psychedelic deep trip, tapping into that odd parallel world where Rick Wade did a track with Maurice Fulton.

“Warm as Hoth” closes the EP. A funky live bass is intertwined by dreamy chords and chaotic melodies, made of stuttering vocal samples. The kind of thing you’d expect if Todd Edwards did a track with Marc Mac: classic UK garage with a jazz-funk vibe and a Detroit Techno feel. Hard to define, but very easy to listen to and play out.

Who else would have thought before the year 2020, that this new decade starts with a devastating natural incident that pushes the entire world in a health crisis and recession? Well, we sure didn’t. And still, after 11 months, this damn virus doesn’t seem to go away. But no matter how bad this pandemic is. There is no need to stop being creative! Many people used their time during the lockdowns as much as possible to make new music. And Jakobin is one of these guys who took his time this spring to work on brand new material, that is slowly but surely coming out the next months on various labels. One of them is his Locked EP on our imprint - fortunea. The title track on the A-side is an amazing piece of house music. A great homage on the raw punching Chicago sound and the late 80s/early 90s UK rave era. Heavy Breakbeat-loops blend in perfect together with the use of 909 kicks, low-frequenced acid lines and a stabbing piano. Turning over to the B-side there is the track ‚Pad Work’. A deep dub house tune with a nuance of Lo-ﬁ-nism in it. Mysterious voices that are coming forward from the background of this bouncing beat, a restrained but also smooth bassline and hypnotic string- and synthesizer-passages are the main characters in this tableau. While ‚Dreadbox’ is sealing the deal on this release with an abstract melancholic sciﬁ elektro approach. Overall a conspicuous release, that lets you forget the chaos that is happening right now in this world. All we wanna say at the end of this text is stay safe out there! And don’t give up!

PREMIERE : Jakobin - Locked (Piano Version)

@moskalus joins us for our 9th installation of our Intentions mix series. Based in Czech Republic, Moskalus is a dj and international music channel for new up and coming dance/electronic music. For his Intentions mix, Moskalus put has put together a blend of afro rhythms to match his chosen animal, the parrot.

Shane McNamara a.k.a. Dunning Krueger is an ambitious DJ and producer based in Edinburgh, Scotland. With his laidback manner and desire to create, he’s attracted a fanbase of house and garage fans worldwide.

After honing his skills over a number of years, Shane finally felt ready to launch a new alias to showcase his new improved sound, and Dunning Krueger was born. His debut release ‘Jump to It’ achieved strong positions in 3 Beatport charts, amongst fierce competition, and was featured in Apple Music's ‘The Underground’ playlist with support from Renato Cohen, 9th House, Shadow Child and DJ Barely Legal.

Dunning Krueger’s versatile sound falls somewhere between a mix of house, garage and 2-step. If there were any words to describe his sound, he admits ‘sunny vibes’ would be appropriate.

As well as being a talented DJ and producer, Shane is also an accomplished video director, producing videos for the likes of Mr Beatnick (Mythstery), Reuben Keeney a.k.a. Rebuke (Toolroom Records), FaltyDL (Ninja Tune) and Last Magpie (Me Me Me).

His DJ skills have led him to hold a vinyl only bi-monthly residency at Basement Sate in Soho, and he’s enjoyed a bi-monthly vinyl only show for 2 years on Music Box Radio, and has graced the turntables at Farr Festival on several occasions.

On the music production front his most successful release to date is the ‘Jump to It E.P.’ on Waze and Odyssey’s ‘Street Tracks’ Label. And entering a remix competition for Man Power, resulted in the release being signed to Me Me Me as part of a compilation to raise money for NHS Charities.

Currently Shane is working hard on a label project for a vinyl/digital concept series with a host of great names already onboard. And Dunning Krueger’s future looks bright, with forthcoming E.P's on Stepback Records, Renato Cohens label Massa (Brazil), a follow up E.P. for Street Tracks and a single on Dawn State.

~ Jon Gravy [Austria] ~

When we think about Austrian house, Demuja is likely to come top of mind, yet closely followed with a staple artist of the Viennese thriving underground scene: Felix B. Nowak. a.k.a. Jon Gravy. Jon kicked off his career quite early, starting to produce his first track at the age of 17 and has now been blessing us with quality music for approximately 10 years. He first developed strong connections with South African grooves and 70s soul music from his dad's vinyl collection, before getting inspired by house and techno pioneers such as Paul Johnson or Underground Resistance. Jon's productions are quite easy to spot: upbeat and groove-ridden house against a backdrop of driving and stinging basslines that you could find on labels like Neo Violence, Blaq Numbers or Rough Recordings. He is also known as the owner of the record label “Step Back Trax” and its event series (Super Motel 168) which has already welcomed lots of worldwide house names (Baltra, KETTAMA or Adryiano). Actually, nothing could currently stop him as he has just founded his second record label "Gravy Trax" and released his own album on it.

We all hope we will get to be dancing again soon this year, but for now, this one should definitely be enough: 60 minutes of both classy and dirty house vibes featuring jams from Lood, Palms Trax or Mogwaa. People, this is assuredly the only way to enter 2021 properly!
