It’s that time again for a new mix, and for Fair Shake 012 we are so incredibly thrilled to welcome Sydney icon Kate Doherty. When we first listened back to this we were moved by the story this mix tells of hope and acceptance, sometimes beguiled by a false future, but often renewed through music and a sense of pride in Australia’s dance tapestry. It seems overwhelmingly fitting that those featured in this mix all come from Australian origins, as we experience the world alongside each other. As spring blooms, sit on the balcony, have a glass of wine in the sun and let Kate turn you into a believer that things are getting better. 

Face the unknown, a spiralling relinquish of power,
Acceptance of our miserly delegation in confinement. 
On our hands patiently, slowly cursing luck, 
we stand out the window and look upon the unflinching earth. 
Here it seems we stay, months weeks and cold hours drag us. 
But there is hope yet in our time, 
A glimmer of forthcoming encroaches, raises the spirit, 
raises a glass and toasts in a renewal of sunshine and bravery. 
Openings appear in the brooding air, prick and you shall pass.

From hiatus, Fair Shake has returned to tell the tale of a city’s spirit through the eyes of dear friend, Lazy Suzan. A saviour selector, she sways us with a sermon, lifts us up, beats our celestial heart. This mix is full of discrete grooves and complex rhythm, exploration of the aural and movement towards the light. So on this day of rest, Bless yourself and tune in.

Fair Shake 013 - Lazy Suzan

In a distant time, the earth revolves as it always did. In this age, bionics curate the masses, searching for stimulation is the motive of the heathens. In the recesses of Melbourne, everything has merged, synchronised and blended together. Hybrid is everything, technology, people, cultures and genres weld. Boroughs exist over and underground, scraping the sky as they drill deeper into the red rock. It is here, under the earth and towards the molten centre, that the psychedelic techno core of BDE’s Fair Shake mix spurns. Crowds form, jettison in from caverns, and writhe to the soundtrack of the times - join them.

Jenny Cara turns up the heat with an eclectic mix, featuring sick sample induced 90’s house and progressive grooves all with a dash of acid. With an amazing year behind her, playing at some of the hottest and cutest spots like Robert Johnson, Panorama Bar and Wildeburg Festival, we caught up with Jenny to talk about her hometurf Switzerland, playing Panorama Bar for the fourth time and what’s to come.

Gday! And welcome to the Fair Shake Express. 3rd Orbit and Softserve in the booth. Now, find space, alight the station, relinquish the body and let them pitch us through arcs of golden chaos.  

Conducting aural scores, they encourage movement instantly, we willing passengers impress without demur. It trains down errant tracks, bouncing along the sleepers, flashing glorious sounds and poking holes in rugged terrain. Powered by steam, it exhales, and shutters the limbs all four corners. 

3rd Orbit & Softserve host The Bleached Re-Cap on Area3000 Radio focusing on driving sounds from Naarm & surrounds, so we were super excited for them to join us and highlight artists and labels solely from the city they reside.
