今や押しも押されぬ日本が誇るトラックメーカー、CradleことTomoki Seto氏がプロデュースを手がけるニュープロジェクト、ブラックミュージック古典～ヒップホップ世代を飲み込む新鋭のレアグルーヴ・バンド、その名もNautilusがデビュー！

バンド名の由来にもなったBob Jamesによる"Nautilus"、さらにRoy Ayersによる"We Live In Brooklyn Baby"をカップリングした先行7インチ第1弾に続き、第2弾となる本盤は、時代/ジャンルを超越した永遠の名曲 Suzannne Vegaの"Tom's Diner"と、Gil Scott-Heronの"Lady Day And John Coltrane"をカップリング。前者はソウルバンド The Marddiesのボーカリストとしても知られるMizuki Kamataを、後者は東京とニューヨークを行き来きするSSW、Kei Owadaをフィーチャーした渾身のカバー・ソング！

[NAUTILUS PROFILE]
2014年ドラマーである佐々木俊之(ds)をリーダーとして、梅沢茂樹(bs)、竹内大輔(key)と共に結成され、ジャズからファンク、ディスコ、ソウル、ヒップホップまで消化した多様な音楽性を武器とした現代版レアグルーヴ体現バンド。Bob Jamesの楽曲"Nautilus"から着想を得て、実在した潜水艦Nautilusとのイメージを織り交ぜて、70年代のレアグルーブサウンドを追求しつつ、深海にいざなうようなディープな世界観を作り上げている。オリジナルの楽曲は全て佐々木の作曲によるもので、ドラマーならではリズムの仕掛けなどがふんだんに盛り込まれつつ、クリス・デイヴやマーク・ジュリアナに代表されるようなテクニカルなスキルも披露されており、さらには楽曲のメロディセンスやコード感などドラム以外の才能も発揮している。多ジャンルで活躍している佐々木のしなやかかつ力強いドラミングと、梅沢のブラックミュージック仕込みの太く絡み付くようなベースライン、竹内の持つクラシックのテイストが混ざり合い、ありそうでなかった、他に類を見ない極上のグルーヴを生み出すサウンドに仕上がっている。

Ovidiu Zimcea – Street Fighter

Track description: “I wanted to make a narrative track inspired by a gig I had that was cut short due to the police coming to shut it down. The track initially started as part of a jam I recorded on a Korg Little Bits set. The oriental glitch part that comes in after half time got really stuck in my head for about a week after that so I decided to give it more context and make it the culminating point of a thick track that breaks up in three acts.”

About Ovidiu Zimcea
Started making music for film in 2007, at first for short film and later for features, live performances and contemporary dance. Gradually narrowed the stylistic approach for my live act to electronica with hints of post-rock trip-hop and R&B. Was formerly in Paperjam and Exit Oz, with which I’ve recorded the debut EP and LP, respectively, the latter being considered one of the important albums to come out of Romania in the 2010s as it was received especially well by critics and audiences alike. In 2016 and 2017 I was part of Alexandrina’s live band for her 10 year anniversary tour. Was invited to open for Nadja, Aidan Baker, Tibi Pin, Minus, Aleksa Alaska, BAB, The Best Bad Trip and The Egocentrics. A debut LP is currently in the works and will be released in early 2020.
