Next up on Tensnake's True Romance is an EP from one of Dance music's most widely loved and omni-present characters - head of the Turned On podcast - Ben Gomori. 

Ben's had his fingers in all sorts of music- related pies for many years, occasionally turning his talented hand to original productions and edits.
With previous releases on Armada, Fate & Fiction and his own Monologues imprint - Ben now makes his 3rd return to True Romance with the aptly-title ‚Desperately Seeking Something‘.

Opening track ‚Funkle’ channelling steamy 70s sass, the title track melds a well- selected batch of samples into a feverish jam. Dramatic stabs, electrifying vocals and irresistible whammy guitar loops all tumble over a truncated bass line. Intelligent arrangement is the key here as the energy remains palpable throughout rises and drops which coming blow after blow.

'Desperately Seeking Something' then follows up with 6 minutes of pure, piano- driven joy. Uplifting chords, rising strings and swirling vocals are all gathered together and set floating over more clever drum programming. 

Again, the structure of the track works wonders in pushing / pulling tension throughout a track which is guaranteed to send the dance floor into a frenzy.

Feedasoul Records gets a thumping two-tracker courtesy of label newcomer Ron Boss. This EP centers around connection and collaboration. Ron Boss teams up with Street Sound and Marcus Raute on 'Never Give Up', a house cut reminiscent of the UK scene. A no-nonsense 4/4 rhythm, scintillating hi-hat patterns and a wobbly synth bassline provide a driving foundation for the mesmerizing vocals and heartfelt keys. On the flip side, Ron Boss and Street Sound display a side that is both intricate and delicate. 'One Day' builds atmosphere from the start with spacey pads gluing the heavy tribal percussion while horns build up into the mix. The track culminates with the drums taking the backseat, beautifully balancing the percussion and horns with the atmospheric synths pads and breakdowns. A heavy hitter of a track.

After a short break Samosa Records explodes back on the scene with ‘Earth Wind & Funk’, a deadly four-tracker EP that is sure to get the juices flowing and body moving.

A1 sees New Zealander producer ‘Strange’ make a most welcome return, spinning the funk loom with the ‘Hard Working’ (De Gama Re-Drums). A truly addictive and distinctive bassline sets the pace, tone and feel for this gorgeously constructed track. It has it all; sumptuous vocal, high-end brass and an acid squelch to die for. Dig it, you will.

A2 lands with Frank Virgilio’s ‘Love Is Positivity’ – a melting pot of twisted disco, feel-good scatty rhythm and lifting vocals. The melody is literally dripping with positivity, but also has an almost transcendental vibe secretly going on. The last drops of summer are right here. Enjoy them.

On the B-side, Mosaik Kollektive raise the temperature with the De Gama Re-Drums applied ‘Keep’. A tough, perfectly cooked groove that gets right in your face and makes no apologies for screaming at you. The bass on this unstoppable monster is all-consuming. Rhythm guitar licks blend with soaring strings and that’s the full basket. Sublime meaty goodness.

Closing matters for this incredible EP at B2 is the effervescent Monsieur Van Pratt and Funk De Ibiza. MVP stretches his funky legs to the full here, laying down a solid beat, arpeggio and a bass so tough you could train it to box. Expertly blended with J-pop-esque vocal and shrill church organ. Drop this at midnight and watch the carnage unfold and hands in the air.

Earth, Wind and Funk is the exposure to the elements you absolutely want. A more perfect slice of wax you couldn’t find and one that’s sure to find its way into the record boxes of those who know.

Surging ahead with his next dynamite single on Jack Said What, Serge Santiago is unstoppable at the minute. His ’11:11’ album was rammed with 4/4 dancefloor bangers, and he’s already well on the way to album number two. 

‘Take Me Away’ is another fine house tune to add to Serge’s solo cannon. “Music is the basis of all life…” says a deep commanding voice, extolling the wonders of music at judicious points throughout the track. Swung beats, a tinkling bell and funky percussion provide the bedrock to another hugely playable, chuggy house music missive from Serge. 

A regular at Jack Said What label nights while also helming the Stompa Phunk club brand that he recently relaunched in his home city of Brighton, Serge has been firing on all cylinders since leaving behind the Waze & Odyssey project that he was half of for the previous decade. After spending most of his time in the studio over the past couple of years, he’s back gigging internationally now, as a solo artist, and has his mojo well and truly between his teeth.
