One was a young martyr
Strong in faith and persevered
She lived with forty friends

Her father lost his way
But her faith led him to stay
My beloved St Demiana, the Princess of the heavenly (*2)

Her gaze was sharp and wise 
She urged me to remember To seek the heavenly prize

Though their paths were not the same
One left the world in place raised a child in her embrace
The other faced the enemy And triumphed in her bravery
My beloved St Marinas, the vessels of humility (*2)

Their eyes were clear and bright
They urged me to remember 
To seek the path of Light

The fourth one loved to pray
Evil could not find its way
The mention of her name
Made Satan burst in flame.
Cyprian's magic failed
And in time his faith prevailed
My beloved St Justina, She fought in Christ's arena (*2)

Her prayer was deep and true
She urged me to remember 
To pray in all we do

This mother lived in sin
And strayed from Christ within 
The world would always tempt her
The church she could not enter
To the desert she fled
And lived for Christ instead
My beloved Egyptian Mary, her passions she did bury (*2)
Quickly I ran to her,
Her spirit was filled with glee, 
She urged me to remember, 
Repentance sets us free.

In the temple she grew 
In obedience and virtue
She bore the Son of Man 
To fulfill God's Holy Plan 
For us she intercedes
For all her children's needs.

A stranger I lived in the world
A foreigner like my forefathers
A pilgrim in my attitude
In my thoughts and my desires
A Stranger, I have no one to
Unload on him, my thoughts so true

The people do not like my roots
Nor do they understand my end
In craze arise the multitude
In maddening noise without an end
And I remain in solitude
Serenity in my heart felt
A stranger, I can find no home
Nor a corner to rest alone

I cast away the world's pleasures
Ignoring her callings to me
I went, I dragged away my things
Away from their merry-makings
My heart silent, indifferent
To all they think is important
My listening will never yield
To loud and worldly conversing

I wander off all on my own
So happy to be in the vast
With my timbrel and my cymbal
And melodies of praise I sing
And now comes the holy moment
In which I Retreat with my King
I roam about as a spirit
Invisible to on-lookers
The world alien I am to it
A foreigner like my forefathers

My existence is a triumph
No wealth, power to disturb me
No house is here to delay me
