This week on the podcast we describe the differences between props and movement. We also describe soft and hard effects, and give examples of sounds that foley artist might do, or might not do.

This week we talk about footsteps. John considers footsteps to be one of the most difficult sounds for foley artists to master. We give examples, talk about which floor panel or "pit" he considers the hardest to get the proper sound from, make a list of shoes a new foley artist should have, and describe some of his favorite shoes. (One of his favorites was used in a well known song!)

Michalis Fasoulas, aka mikael fas, was born in Crete, Heraklion and his parentage is from Anwgeia. His first encounter with a musical instrument occurred in the age of 8 and it involved the traditional 3-string "lyra". Growing up, he became fond of the sound of electric quitar. Self-taught, he entered the local music scene becoming the guitarist of various rock groups, with the progressive metal genre being the one he became most accustomed to. "Mindscape" was the name of the progressive metal band he co-created, publishing a demo release entitled "Utopia of Balance" in 2004. During these gain years, he got heavily influenced by progressive rock bands, like King Crimson, Rush, Yes and Van der Graaf Generator, while in the years to follow, he also got involved with music genres like Krautrock, Post Rock, Indie, Alternative, Funky and Jazz with his main attraction being the atmospheric sounds and the electronic elements in all genres.
