Excited to share my week 17 track of the 52/52 song challenge! I’ll be dropping a brand new remix or original every Wednesday throughout 2025, and this week’s happened to be one of my all time favorite tracks. I remember discovering this track sometime in 2010 and listening to it on repeat for days on end! I felt like I didn't even fully understand what electronic music was at the time but I soon found it to be the only thing I listened to. Now here we are 15 years later and it's still all I listen to! When Skrillex dropped KIXA with Slickback a few weeks ago, it felt like nothing anyone had ever heard before! A daring blend of his signature dubstep sound design with eerie pads, arps, and ambient electronic textures. What stood out most to me was the absence of drums: heavy basses moving in 4/4 cadence without any groove to drive them forward.

That’s when the idea sparked. I imagined what KIXA could become if flipped into a proper club weapon. I brought it into the Drum & Bass realm, cranked it to 175BPM, and built a tight drum pattern underneath. But it still felt like it needed an extra layer of energy, so I borrowed the iconic vocals from Rumble and Make it Bun Dem and stitched them in.

The way I approached it was almost like treating KIXA as a sample pack: chopping, rearranging, and layering all those incredible bass shots and fills into something that slaps in a rave setting. The result is a track that feels like a parallel universe version of KIXA, one where it was always meant to become a heavy-hitting Drum & Bass banger.
