After an incredible weekend at Movement Festival in Detroit, insomnia wouldn't let me rest. The only way to find solace was to make a mix for you. Over the weekend, in a garden oasis known as Foxglove, the legends AUX88 recalled the origin of Detroit Techno emanating from the factories. They likened the sounds of techno as a reproduction of the sound that programmed machines created as they manufactured goods from Detroit for world export. The factories may be gone but in their place Techno remains and we continue to export wealth to the world. 

This one is for the community of lovers of all nationalities rocking under a groove, united by pulsing beats and driving forces of sound. Love thy neighbor. Love first.

Background: A lot has happened, from the Lot Radio set in NYC to ADE and a brief trip to SoCal in the last month to playing at Marble Bar in August and May. This year has shown me the power of love, community, and connection thru music. 

Realization: I've realized that change is the only constant in our lives; space within our mind is all that we Control; and time is the primary resource for our lives.

Gratitude

Happy Winter Solstice to all of those in the Northern Hemisphere. Today marks the shortest day in terms of sunlight. It is okay to feel cold, sad, isolated, and hopeless as we reach today.  Lack of the sun can leave us feeling empty and I wanted to make a slow and easy mix for all those going through it right now. Today is the beginning of our march towards summer and I wish you realignment, comfort, love, and above all faith. Things will get better for us all and I look forward to dancing with you all In the future.

Today marks the turning point that ultimately leads us back to late sunsets and early sunrises.

Recorded at sunrise during my birthday weekend festivities. We stayed up all night with music, sauna, and the best company. I  am truly grateful for the people around me and the beauty of spending quality time with those who matter. This week has been big for the USA and the world and even if there was an economic collapse, I am convinced that my tribe and I will still find ways to be very wealthy in all the ways that matter most. Golden

Time is changing and the older we get the faster it goes by. I wanted to capture that essence in this mix by starting off at 95 BPM then progress to 165 BPM. I was aiming for subtlety however there may be some areas where the experimental side (towards the end fasho). Think back to times where 15 minutes felt like forever, and now you blink twice and it's Sunday again, I know a second is still a second but it often feels like the BPM of life  is changing, I call it change of time.

Change of Time

I'm longing to be on the beach again. I'd describe this mix aspirational, made for the beach, cruising on a beautiful day, and welcoming the beauty of this beautiful life. Lately I've had some episodes of feeling like summer may never come, God willing it's sooner than we all imagine, and when it comes, we will be ready. After a night out in Detroit, the homies decided to mix under the northern lights, sadly we missed the lights, but this mix got us there. I'll be spinning techno at Spot Lite in Detroit on Saturday during the Movement Festival Festivities, aka techno Christmas for Detroit, see you there cuties. With love, Candor. 

Hard & Fast

This mix was recorded on the beach in Detroit after a late night / early morning with the people I love the most. Was in Amsterdam last week for 909 fest and was blown away, Movement Festival in Detroit 3 weeks ago left me inspired and started a new chapter. This mix is for all of your summer adventures, preparation, drives, kick backs, train rides, and time with those you love the most. I thank God for the community I am blessed to be a part of, you're all so brilliant, Tschau bebis, Mike Candor.

SOLSTICE

If you are reading this, I have arrived at Electric Forest. This mix was recorded in route to the Forest. It is the pleasure of a lifetime to see HYPEMELO and SPHINX B2B. Only second to these two loves is DJ Heartstring who I've met in seen and dapped up Berlin and Chicago. The community we are all apart of is incredible and I thank God for all the beauty we have shared and will share together. Happy Forest!

If you are reading this I have arrived at Electric Forest but you probably already know that (it's part 2). This mix is faster and more true to the soundscapes that inspired me to start mixing. TRANSIT PT. II

Starting with a track from Munera followed by Candor and recorded in Detroit during the Full Moon on July 10th, two local Detroit DJs weave a sonic soundscape the is raw, eclectic, and expressive, totally existent outside the confines of perfection, yet so contextually right. We've embraced its imperfections as unique to the style of the mix, sharing music with people you love isn't always sterile but is always a good time. Full Moon by Munera & Candor

During a retrograde complications may occur, reflect, mind your mind, and persevere. This set was 100% struggle the entire time and despite having load lock on, I managed to accidentally hit the pause around 14 minutes in. Felt like some retrograde energy. Despite the difficulties however, the crowd loved every moment and the night was incredible. I hope you enjoy.

This mix was recorded for a live audience on a rooftop during sunset in Detroit. Next stop, ADE ;)

Background: I've realized that the best inspiration is a good time. This previous weekend was such a good experience filled with familiar and new faces, regulating places, and stepping up to the plate and getting what I want. I am filled with gratitude for everyone who came to our party at Marble Bar in Detroit and for the local and worldwide community supporting what we love. Summer is ending and in these months we've felt the full Spectrum. 

Spectrum

Before Candor, people in Detroit used to call me Groovy Mike. It almost became my DJ moniker but didn’t fit 4am rave aesthetics so time moved on. Now it’s the name of a gift. Specifically, a gift from me to you, the listener. I wanted to give you something to cruise to during sunset perhaps. Forget the crazy world perhaps… I always aim to groove you, move you, and maybe even give you some stank face.  With the current state of the world, I felt like I needed to communicate something in this mix and offer escape from what’s being forced upon us daily. Anyway, there is a surprise at the end… I hope you like Metronomy. If i ever relocate out of the States. That last track will be the first track I play when I land in the new homeland.

Groovy Mike

In the beginning there was bouncy trance, it was the first genre on my USB and the sound that inspired me to get behind the decks. For some it was too fast and too euro however it resonated with some really important people in Detroit thus creating opportunities for me to bring this sound to the masses. 22 months later the sound that I love has gained real traction, BPM's are higher,  and I have a community that understands that music, especially high energy music can be a tool for a great time and to warp time. The intention of this mix is to make you move, groove, and leave you with more energy than you had before. 

ENERGY

This spooky hard house track was about 95% complete around my 5th day of using Ableton. It is my first project in Ableton and I debated putting it out or adding more to it for about a month. After ADE, I realized it maybe needed a little rearrangement and decided I'd release it. I am still a baby with maybe like 2-3 weeks of using Ableton at this point.

Masquerade

Sometimes it feels like everything is pushing against you, fortitude is a mix to motivate you to keep on pushing! You've got this, your push back can be the biggest shift of your life! 

Story time: I've wanted to record a mix for a few days now yet somehow sleep and other things have managed to get in the way. I had a usb malfunction that almost made me delay again but fortunately my old USB from the lot radio set came in clutch, one major caveat, all of my old songs were gone. After a dropping a few playlists on the USB, it was go time. Fortitude is the name of the mix because it was forged in fortitude, keep on pushing forward familia.
