Mike's stuff

A vocal version (with lyrics) of Joe Meek's "Telstar" from Desi, Desi, and Desi, pop and noise denizens of the EV from '79 to '86. The Desis were regulars at A7 and played the clubs everybody else played; they did fast grooves with skronk guitars and then played sincere pop songs. This cut was engineered by Claude Achille at a 16-track studio called B&B in the West 30s. It was '81 or '82. Byron Stevens and Mike Enright, guitars; Mike McShane, drums; Fran Slater, bass; Enright and Slater, vocals.

Telstar (vocal)

"Destroyer Girlfriend" is a groove number from Desi Desi and Desi that was played at every performance in the band's East Village lifetime (1980-86). It features an ostinato slab of a riff under a pre-rap vocal performance of a rough-edged poetic lyric. 

This recording began life in '80 or '81 with drummer Mike McShane and bassist Mike Enright at the A7 Club (where the Desis rehearsed and ofter performed). Vocals and skronk guitars were added later by Enright onto the Tascam 3340 recording; Byron Stevens added lyric (though strange) guitar lines on the final remaining channel. 

The Tascam reel-to-reel master is badly deteriorated; for this new mix the remaining tracks were combined with additional instrumentation to replace the tracks that could barely be heard. This work was completed in April of 2016.

Destroyer Girlfriend (archaelology mix)

Pop epic from A7 Club regulars Desi, Desi, and Desi, a fixture in NYC East Village from '79 to '86. Included members of The Ed Davis Band, "Cincinnati's first punk band". This 4-track studio version performed and recorded (in the middle of the night) at 256 E. 10th Street #4B by Mike Enright; featuring Fran Slater on backing vocals. Tune by Barry/Bricusse, based on the guitar-heavy Billy Strange arrangement on the flip side of "Jackson".
